I'm going to be honest with you - I read this because it was a free Kindle book. In the end, I loved it! To give you a little background: I was raised in a mixed religion household (my father is Jewish, my mother is Catholic) and I do not consider myself a religious person. I expected this book to be too religious for me, but I was really surprised. Carrie is an Amish girl, part of the "Plain Folks" society of Lancaster PA. I expected a sort of "Boy-Meets-Girl" storyline but WHEW, there are twists and turns left and right that keep you guessing almost to the very end. I won't give away too much, but there are definitely some surprises in store for the reader! I expected a little bit of ridiculous "peering at him longingly from behind bonnet strings" romance. Instead, I found a realistic and sweetly slow picture of love. I found the overall story to be almost like the cup of coffee that keeps getting passed around and appreciated by various characters - it is a little bitter (as in sad) but warming to the soul at the same time. Sure there were some Bible quotes and morals stuck in, but they weren't suppresive or overly forced upon you. You ended up feeling a little more at peace after reading the book. This may be just me, but I appreciate a positive story that shares a little bit of good left in this world. This book also helped me understand the Amish a little bit more. I don't live too far from Lancaster and Amish country, and like they say in the book, us Englisher's still manage to lack knowledge of their lifestyle and beliefs. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a wholesome, sort-of-educational, change of pace novel.

The best Greg Maguire book in my opinion. He tends to over-philosophize and over-poeticize in his other books. He does a good job of keeping himself in check in this one.

Inhalt: Stell dir vor, du wachst mitten auf einer Wiese auf. Alles, was du bei dir hast, ist ein Rucksack, in denen Dinge verstaut sind, mit denen du im ersten Moment nichts anfangen kannst. Völlig hilflos stellst du fest, dass du nicht weißt, wo du dich befindest. Aber viel beunruhigender ist, dass du nicht weißt, wie du heißt, geschweige denn, wie du an diesen Ort gelandet bist. Und alles, was jetzt noch zählt, ist, herauszufinden, wer du bist und was mit dir passiert ist. Genau das ist Boy Seven passiert… Meine Meinung: Mirjam Mous hat mich mit ihrem Thriller begeistert. Die Geschichte beginnt zunächst sehr langsam, bis die Spannung im Laufe der Geschichte bis ins unerträgliche gesteigert wird. Die Seiten fliegen gerade ab der Mitte des Buches nur so dahin, weil die Geschichte um den mysteriösen Boy Seven teils unfassbare Wendungen beinhaltet. Boy Seven ist während der gesamten Handlung nie schlauer als der Leser selbst, das heißt, dass er immer gemeinsam mit dem Leser neue Erklärungen, Geheimnisse und Intrigen aufdeckt. Somit leidet man förmlich mit dem Protagonisten mit, ist genauso geschockt über seine Vergangenheit, wie er selbst. Punktabzug gibt es aufgrund einiger Wendungen, die leider etwas vorhersehbar waren. Außerdem wäre meiner Meinung nach das Ende noch ausbaufähig gewesen. Die Lösung des Problems war viel zu schnell gefunden und somit nur wenig realistisch. Fazit: ‘Boy Seven’ ist ein packender Thriller, der mit Sicherheit nicht nur Jugendliche begeistern wird.

Ms. Picoult has the writing down pat. She keeps things moving at a steady pace and structures her chapters well, so you are always wanting more. She is definitely a master of the easy, but intelligent and captivating fast read. The book is very bright written from lots of different perspectives to keep you interested in the characters. It is a very lively and engrossing tale, playing emotions so well that you'd have to be a robot not to be moved by it. I'm not 100% pleased with the ending. It is definitely unexpected, but a bit too sensational to be genuine. I suppose it's in keeping with one of the themes of the book, which is that you can't always control the outcome of life.

She will discover who her husband really is and in the process get shot at, talks to a monkey, gets arrested, meets a really hot Spanish guy and all to save the planet. Pretty funny huh? The story is really cute. I love the way the author keeps the pace up through out the whole book and throws in a few surprises. Oh and did I mention I love that money?
