Graeme Stephenson grez_s — I really enjoyed this book. It looked at the relationship between slave women and their masters in a different way. These selected women were their masters' concubines and there was nothing they could do about it. while some fought with all their being to be free, some accepted and almost embraced their fate as slaves to their masters' every whim. It amazed me how much fear these women lived with on a daily basis... fear of disappointing their master, fear of their children being sold, fear of becoming pregnant and bringing children into slavery... so much fear! And yet they still served and cared for their masters for much of their lives. I recommend this to readers who enjoyed The Help, although it is much different, it is a new look at slavery in the US.

Lam Kam kamwah — Ms. Picoult has the writing down pat. She keeps things moving at a steady pace and structures her chapters well, so you are always wanting more. She is definitely a master of the easy, but intelligent and captivating fast read. The book is very bright written from lots of different perspectives to keep you interested in the characters. It is a very lively and engrossing tale, playing emotions so well that you'd have to be a robot not to be moved by it. I'm not 100% pleased with the ending. It is definitely unexpected, but a bit too sensational to be genuine. I suppose it's in keeping with one of the themes of the book, which is that you can't always control the outcome of life.

Glass Plus _lass_lus — I loved reading this book, especially at the same time as The Miracle of Forgiveness. I think Brother Wilcox gives some great insights that we don't realize about the Atonement. His message is very inspiring and hopeful. Compared to President Kimball's book, I think it was a bit more comforting. It was very enlightening and I highly recommend it!!

Danielle Vaughan vaughansolutions — one of three great books i read for my Deviance class. this is half creative writing, half theory, which i think is a great idea. the book presents a wide spectrum of feelings on the sex industry. the creative writing (short stories and poems) are written by sex industry workers, from street-corner hookers to more "legitimate" escorts to no-contact strippers. there are sound arguments for and against sex as an industry, and "the oldest profession" as a... well, profession. makes you think.
