Really intense book about the author's rape and consequent struggle to find justice and sanity. I wasn't expecting it, after reading The Lovely Bones, which is one of my favorite books of all time. It's definitely fascinating, but be ready for a difficult one that will make you think.

Slog city. I wanted the characters to jump out of the book and track me down some fake people with personalities. Make themselves useful instead of blah blah blalglbglb. What led me to read the whole thing, I cannot be called upon to surmise. I should be nicer to me than that.

A fictional story written from the perspective of an autistic teenager. It appealed to me because of its glimpse into a generally incomprehensible mindset. What I took from it is that without the capacity for intuition, empathy, and love we are capable of so little.

Holling Hoodhood is a seventh grade boy trying his best to get through school, help keep his family together and also make sense of the Vietnam War. Oddly enough, Shakespeare helps him make sense of it all. This book helped me remember how important good teachers are no matter where we find them in life. I also really enjoyed the authors writing style. He had me laughing outloud on several occassions.

I love Narnia. And I loved how, after reading most of the other books, I was able to go back and read this prequel. Definitely do not read the series in the order most collections put it. Although this book does tell the origins of Narnia, it is NOT the first book written, and I loved reading them in the order published--seeing the pieces of Narnia fall into place was like learning a secret.
