Javier Torres javiertorres — I finished first section of this book last night 3/17/11. Although I just reuturned from five days in the caribbean, with seemingly endless hours to read on the beach, I wasn't anxious to read it, which should tell me something; the "something" being that it's not that good. Descriptions of the initial love making scenes between Isabelle and Stephen are graphic, but those are the only scenes that feel charged with emotion, the rest of it leaves me feeling flat. I may or may not finish this book. UPDATE. I completely changed my mind about this book. The middle section describes a soldier at war and is incredible. The descriptions, while lengthy, get the reader as close to the battlefield as one can possibly be without actually going to war. You live the in the psychological mindset of the soldier, realizing how all encompassing war is and how incredibly difficult it must be when the war is over. It was beautifully written. An epic.

Gregory Bell photoguy3362 — I love Narnia. And I loved how, after reading most of the other books, I was able to go back and read this prequel. Definitely do not read the series in the order most collections put it. Although this book does tell the origins of Narnia, it is NOT the first book written, and I loved reading them in the order published--seeing the pieces of Narnia fall into place was like learning a secret.

伍 金雁 jiuhejiaoliu — This is the story of the lives of a few Puerto Ricans making their lives in the poverty stricken Bronx. My eyes and heart were opened a bit more in the reading of these poignant and real life accounts. I learned more, understood more. The cycle of poverty is tough to break and it haunts generation after generation. The system doesn't work. Its the people who care that make a difference. The children suffer the most. And then the women after them. May we all have the courage to follow LeBlanc to the dark places so we can know the beautiful people who live there.
