александр лукашин frostt81 — This book was not what I expected. And I don't mean this in a good way. In fact, I am wondering why everybody loves this book so much. I don't know. I really don't. To me it was a kind of blah book. Seriously. Sure, it had potential and I have to say at first I was kinda intrigued but then I got more and more bored. It was the same thing all over again, you know. Mia in the hospital (i.e. what happens there with her), then she thinks of the past, old memories, parents, Adam, ... I just - I don't really know how to describe it but it was kinda predictable from the writing style. How Forman told the story. I suppose all the tragedy should touch me but I have to say, it didn't. I felt kinda indifferent while reading it. This book didn't touch me at all. Way too predictable, the characters weren't any better then puppets and yeah, not my cup of tea. I guess. Let me just say, when I read a book like this, with this topic, I expect way more. A lot more. Especially making me able to feel. Forman didn't succeed at all. Even though there were some nice sentences. But that's it. Not a book to be remembered. Sadly.

陈 小虾 chendanxia52e4 — this book deserves a 5/rating... but I can't do that. perhaps it is me but it took me three attempts with the actual book until I finally gave in and bought the audio book. and even then it took me two tries got get past the beginning. it was my first attempt at Sanderson and I didn't know what to expect aside from a rave from my buddy. each time the main character would get to Elantris... I would shut it down. it was so dreary...such a downer. Then I would read another of Brandon's books, realize or be reminded of his genius in creating worlds and magic systems. so,/thus reminded I would restart Elantris and... get a few extra pages further... only to fail again. I have since read Mistborn Warbreaker Rithmatist Steel heart Fire Fight and the way of Kings and in between each (it seemed)/I would return to Elantris for another try. Finally I have finished it and once again glad I persevered. I have come to love Raodin and Serene. So what was my problem? Normally, we see the magic and the wonder right from the start... and it is the conflict that our heroes face that sets the stage. in Elantris... the lack of magic and the mystery of what happens to Raodin is the story and we have got to slog through the proverbial elantrian muck to realize and feel for what is accomplished by the end of the novel. So. why Four stars? Even though I believe we needed this journey I think we could have a tad bit more foreshadowing early on. Perhaps get to know the main character more before he changes. the first chapters are so bleak...and really without hope ...ultimately this was its flaw. please don't let it deter you. it us a wonderful story... hang in there long enough and you will be rewarded.

Jin Brill whatisjond5a15 — I have to admit that I actually started to read this book while browsing through a Barnes and Noble and never actually bought it. Its really rather good, though, especially if you like English history from this time period.
