This was probably my least favorite of the series so far, and I still gave it 4 stars. That ought to tell you how I feel about this series, lol. It's hard to put my finger on why this one didn't capture me the way the first 3 did. For one thing, it seemed like there wasn't quite as much passion. I mean, the intimate scenes did not disappoint, but it was harder for me to get lost in those moments. I think it was because, at first, I didn't like Jacinda that much. The author made no secret of the fact that she was somewhat spoiled, and in the beginning she acted like it. I went with it because I assumed it was part of the overall story. She grew as a person as the story intensified. She started out wanting what she wanted (freedom) and didn't stop to think who she might be hurting in order to get it. Namely her family and Lizzie when she tried to run off in the beginning. After all the years that Lizzie had faithfully given her loyal friendship, I was disappointed in Jacinda for trying to ditch her. And I was also pretty appalled at her ploy involving Lord Drummond. But, like I said, she grew as the story unfolded. I guess it just seemed like Billy worked a lot harder for the relationship than she did. Despite how I felt about the h, Foley's writing style pulled me in just the way it has for the last three books. Not my favorite, but still a very worthy read.
