Heidi Anne heidiannemorris — There's really a supernatural element in this romance, but the participants don't quite realize it. Independent Debra buys a gag gift, Fiance in a Box, to eliminate the pressure after one more blind date. She uses the material in the box to create "Lawyer Logan," an ideal man. Just when her parents are lobbying for an introduction, Logan appears, acting as though all the things she's made up about their relationship are true. Debra is sure he's a con man or something, but gradually admits to herself that he is perfect for her. Just as she's ready to admit her love to him, he forgets who she is--and so does her family. Debra is the only one who remembers their relationship, and he accuses her of stalking him. Now Debra has to win Logan over.

Ezzaldin Shahrori ezzaldin — I bought this because John Ashberry put it on the reading list for a poetry workshop. Why? Because he loved Stein's language, and thought poetys could learn something from it. At the end of the workshop, he admited that he'd never made it all the way through it either.

Miguel ángel miguelgonzale — ‘Heartbreak is necessary for one to understand what God’s gift of time truly is.’ Michael Stewart is no stranger to hardship: a troubled childhood; the death of his mother; living on the streets; and the loss of his wife Vicki have each contributed to his turning his back on his Christian faith. Michael is doing the best he can to raise his teenage daughter Elizabeth, but he’s finding life lonely and tough. One Saturday, while helping at a church food drive, first Elizabeth and then Michael enter a trapdoor in the church basement. The trapdoor leads to a tunnel, and when Michael and Elizabeth reach the end of the tunnel, they find themselves in first century Jerusalem caught up in the events of the final week of the life of Jesus Christ. Michael and Elizabeth meet Leah, a kind widow, who tries to help them find their way home. Michael has a face to face encounter with Jesus, and has a life changing experience as a consequence. The story is interspersed with flashbacks which flesh out the stories of Michael, Elizabeth and Leah by providing relevant background information. Michael and Elizabeth make repeated attempts to return home, but the tunnel they emerged from is being guarded and their attempts are thwarted until after Christ’s crucifixion. But they do succeed in returning home, and it seems that the future may well be brighter. I read the earlier version of this novel in 2008, and while I enjoyed it as well, this is a more polished story. Because the story enables us to understand the causes and consequences of Michael’s pain, his journey back in time can be seen as a way of coming to terms with the past and re-igniting his faith for a more hopeful future. I understand that Mr Sullivan is working on the sequel entitled ‘The Greatest Christmas Gift’. Jennifer Cameron-Smith

Yue Shih yueshh — Life As We Knew It is written for teen readers. I read it because my ten year old daughter had it sitting on the dining room table. I can't resist a book left alone on the table! Life As We Knew it follows a family living on Earth as it goes through drastic climate change and all other kinds of scariness brought on by the moon being knocked off its axis. So many things that you take for granted (food, sunshine, heat, electricity, neighbors, community and more) disappear from every day life. This book gave me the feeling that I had during childhood after watching The Day After (a television movie about the day after a nuclear war). That movie terrified me because I was probably too young to watch it. This book terrified me in the same way but this time as a grown up that still doesn't want to die! Add on to that the fact that I now have a family that I'm responsible for whether in times of natural disaster or every day happiness and you have a freaked out Mama (admittedly with a very active imagination)! I came to work the morning after reading this book and confided in a coworker how freaked out I was by this kid's book. Needless to say, he thought it was a little hilarious and a little crazy of me to feel this way! I felt better a month or so later when I had a random conversation with another mom at my daughter's school library when she mentioned a book she had read from that very library which gave her nightmares! Well, guess what. It was this book. So, even though I'm one to be against any banning of books, I'm not so against putting this on a shelf your child can't reach for a couple of years, just in case they're wimpy like me! I have to note though that this didn't slightly freak my daughter out. She and I both found it to be a great book. It just gave the grown up in the house a nagging sense of fear and doubt about whether everything is always going to be as we know it.

Maria Gabriela silverliniddd0 — This was a terrific looong read - almost 1,000 pages. What I really enjoyed was the combination of learning about architecture as well as the various plots/subplots of romance, murdery, mystery, etc. There is plenty of rich character development as well as plot twists - I have re-read this book several times over the past 20-some odd years. I have a hankering to re-read it again, after I get some other books out of the way. The sequel to this book, "World Without End", was a great disappointment to me. Maybe if I hadn't read "Pillars of the Earth" WWE could have stood alone as a story by itself.

Yu Gao gaoyu19945ffb9 — This was interesting and thought-provoking. Although ultimately the author doesn't seem to support the effectiveness of small-scale, consumer-choice based change (i.e. seafood watch programs), the book will inspire me to do whatever I can individually to change the tide of overfishing and environmentally damaging aquaculture. Not just filled with dismal statistics, the book was conversational and included much history and culture in connection to man's relationship with fish.
