류 원경 toniryoudd10 — Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I've read Lisa Schroeder's previous work: I heart you, You haunt me, and I was captivated. The Day Before is even more stunning! Schroeder's unique writing style is like poetry for the teenage soul. A girl torn between two families. A boy enamored with the sea. It's the day before their lives change forever. I honestly can't find the words to describe the beauty Schroeder depicts in her writing. It was raw, emotional, and sincere. It's not a complicated story and it isn't a complex romance. It's just the plain and simple story of two people scared of change. With the comfort of each other's understanding, they are able to conquer obstacles presented in life. There's something about reading a story like this at 2 in the morning. I was tucked in bed while everyone else in the house was asleep. A dim light was on, and there wasn't a single distraction. I was able to absorb every line of introspective reflection, and savored the creative moments. I loved it!

Paofgairaud Paofgairaud _aof_airaud — ** spoiler alert ** It took a little bit to get used to the narrative style in this novel but once I did I found it a refreshing change. Overall I thought it was well done, the plot moved along fairly well. Bear's gradual progression from denial to acceptance felt more realistic than many stories where characters immediately accept and embrace their new-found sexuality. The internal monologues worked well for the most part but became a little overdone near the end. One big plot point that really should have had some hint of resolution was the mother's motivation for doing what she did instead of this sudden appearance and then a fair amount of time goes by and you're still left wondering why, especially when she doesn't challenge Bear at the end. The book did garner a rare laugh-out-loud moment: "I told the Kid as much and had gotten as far as to pick up my phone and was about to press in Otter’s number when Ty grabbed the phone out of my hand and threatened to tell Otter that I liked to be spanked during sex. This proceeded to lead us on a long tangent where I had to have him explain to me how he knows about stuff like people getting spanked during sex. He said he might have heard it mentioned while watching MSNBC. I told him he was grounded from watching the news channels for a week. That’s where this whole sidebar should have ended, but then I was forced to explain S & M and bondage to my little brother, who was persistent on the topic, and who then kept staring at me with mounting horror when I finally did explain, and I realized I had maybe gone too far, and we had to spend the next five minutes with me swearing to God that I had never nor would I ever attempt to do anything like that. He might now be the only nine-year-old who has heard the terms “cock ring” and “fisting.” My parenting skills are unparalleled." This had me giggling for quite some time and I couldn't tell MY kid why :)

Felipe Reyes pipeliso — Plot: This book really confused me at first. Being a sequel, I expected the original story to be continued right away. However the first half of the book is about a completely different person and her world. It wasn't until the stories merged that the ending of the first book made sense. Characters: I like the main character in this one a lot better than the first one. Her character's point of view makes the story much better in this one than other other character's would. Setting: The setting doesn't change much from the first one, so I don't have much more to say. Overall: I like this one better than the first one. This one goes more into the mystery of the people and causes you to be more interested in their background. Definitely one to read!
