Alfons Martí _atau — This is now considered a favorite book of mine. It starts out very funny and gets more serious as the story progresses, yet still has humor sprinkled throughout. Violet, the main character, is very imaginative and humorous. She is honest about what she is willing to live with and what she is not, and that makes her character real to me. The time period is 1893, set in Chicago. The Great Fire, The World's Fair and issues dealing with women striving to earn their right to vote are all referred to and a part of this book. I appreciated learning more about the challenges that people were dealing with back at that time (especially women) and I felt as if I was at the World's Fair when Violet would attend with one of her suitors. Funny, interesting and educational....you can't go wrong reading this great book!

Katie Spohn _atie_pohn — This was pretty good, actually. It's pretty much Sherwood Anderson's only book, and it's kind of a troubling collection of stories about weirdly desperate people barely keeping it together on the surface, if I remember it correctly. I might be confusing it with "The Secret."

Ilya Golubovich golub1 — I love Dean Martin.

Jignesh Lad _ignesh_ad_esign — This is the second in the series A Song of Ice and Fire, and I think it's hands-down the best. (The general consensus is that book three is the best, but I think this is much better). All the carefully planted character building and plot developments of Game of Thrones bear fruit here, and the result is a really excellent novel, maybe one of the top 5 epic fantasy books ever. Many of the most best arcs of the entire series are here, including Tyrion's turn as Hand, Jon Snow's adventures at north of the Wall, and Arya's struggles in the Riverlands, which represents the apex of the series for me so far This is probably the best fantasy book written by someone not named Tolkien. If good stories are at all interesting to you, read this book.

Yohann Gacem yohanngacem — I read this when I was younger and, although Melville crafts some truly beautiful passages, I had a tough time getting through it. Still, I've been thinking of re-reading it lately...there's just something about it that stays with you.
