Brice Postma bricepostma — Murakami's memoir is insightful, well thought out, and very reflective of running as a sport, but also as a form of self discipline. I also liked that he included a section on training for a triathlon and the mental strength training he had to undergo both as a writer and runner. Recommended!

uliton
Dmitry Zadonsky uliton — This is only the second book I've read by Cormac McCarthy. I have to say that I enjoyed All the Pretty Horses much more than this one. I'm also excited to continue that trilogy, but I thought I would take a different tack and try this one out first. Like my initial experience with McCarthy, I fully enjoy his writing and find it very different than anything else I've read. The story of this book was also interesting. But it's not on my list of favorites for the simple reason that some of the writing and story were a bit much to bare. Also, I find myself more and more looking for books and stories and movies that in some way show an idea of redemption. Without this it is just a depressing commentary on humanity--leaving out the idea of grace. And these days I don't have time for anything that doesn't in some way recognize Grace and Redemption.

paoloracca
Paolo Racca paoloracca — I have read many books on sanctification and Christian change... This one does a great job providing great theology with great practical suggestions. That makes this book unusual. Because of the author's theology of grace his pratical suggestions do not bury themselves in self help drivel. But he also doesn't leave you stranded with great theology but no suggestions on how to apply that to real life. Overall a very helpful book on how to change without resorting to self reliance and instead running to grace that is able to help in time of need. Also the book is not focused on any one area of change - it touches on overeatting, worry, anger, lust, drinking, pride, gossip, shopping - so probably you...:) It does have a story about a man who told C H Spurgeon he had reached sinless perfection. Spurgeon didn't respond until the next day when he poured a whole pitcher of milk on the man's head a breakfast...The man soon realized he had not quite arrived at perfection...:)

jorwe
Oleksandr Lumarenko jorwe — I had high hopes for this book. Finally someone calls out gender feminists for their irrelevance and counter-productive totalitarian tactics. Classical feminism makes much more sense, men are not The Enemy, etc etc. But she is a little too thorough in the debunking. It would have been nice to see her give some credit to Carol Gilligan's theories of how young girls lose their voices as they go into adolescence and feel pressure to become people-pleasers, etc, but no. It's all garbage to Christina Hoffman. Too bad.
