This book weaves a tale at partition time in India. It is a fantastic narrative that made me fall in love with Rushdie's writing.

If the gold Rory (from Trade Wind) accumulated comes into the plot - I'm in! The plot is already so intricately woven together. It's hard to put down! M. M. Kaye's expert storytelling left me clueless as to who the murderer was. In fact, I never even suspected the real murderer until the last ten pages of the book. All I can say is "thank goodness for Mr Holden".

Solid story, with interesting characters. The hero is the main focus of this story, which is fine since he is the more interesting of the MCs (the heroine is a bit weak). Beau comes off as a bit too good at times, but he's certainly a sweetheart, and it's hard not to like him. There were more than the average amount of typos in the copy I read, with a number of odd word choices and errors, which did hamper my enjoyment a bit. This is the second McCain Bros story from Linda Warren I've read - out of order, and by chance. I like the close-knit family aspect, but it's kind of implausible that this much drama would happen to a single family. Perhaps the family is just cursed? * ETA: Re-read, 22 July 2014. This held up reasonably well for a re-read. It's still pretty ridiculous when they launch into their litany of McCain Traumas, and it makes me laugh when they do (repeatedly), but it's a solid, if soapy, read. I'm not very certain I connect with the heroine's dilemma (egg donors, anyone?), but I liked the characters and felt for them. The typos are still there, but they didn't bother me as much this time. Might hang onto this for yet another re-read in the future. Still a 3/5, I think.

I recognize that Arthurian Legends are not everyone's cup of tea, so to speak, but really, one should give this a try, forgetting Disney and Broadway and killer bunny rabbits. Consider White's prose, after drawing out the family lines of Arthur: Even if you have to read it twice, like something in a history lesson, this pedigree is a vital part of the tragedy of King Arthur. It is why Sir Thomas Malory called his very long book the Death of King Arthur. Although nine-tenths of the story seems to be about knights jousting and quests for the holy grail and things of that sort, the narrative is a whole, and it deals with the reasons why the young man came to grief in the end. It is the tragedy, Aristotelian and comprehensive tragedy, of sin coming home to roost. That is why we have to take note of the parentage of Arthur's son Mordred, and to remember, when the time comes, that the king had slept with his own sister. He did not know he was doing so, and perhaps it may have been due to her, but it seems, in tragedy, that innocence is not enough.

Horrible. The writing style was very amateurish and the character development left me wondering who the characters were and what they were feeling. I gave up reading after 150 pages. I just could not read it. It was awful and a waste of money.

What can I say, I am addicted to Harry Potter. Harry Potter is literary crack. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th books are the best.

"tales of hacking, madness and obsession on the electronic frontier" this book had me hooked. Also a mini-history of personal computers and the birth of the internet.

If I ever go to prison or get shipwrecked on a desert island, I'd like to have planned ahead enough to bring a copy of this book with me. I think those conditions would provide the ideal context in which to read this book; namely, 24 hours a day to fill and nothing whatsoever to break my concentration.

This one gets three stars (as opposed to vol.1's 5 and vol.2's 4 stars) b/c although i'm sure it was brilliant in all its ecentricities, it got to a point where I couldnt quite follow it anymore (and it was overdue at the library). But, at some point I'd like to try another stab at it.
