I would probably give this a 2.5 if possible... it's a good book, but did I really 'like' it, I'm not sure... Well written I suppose but this type of story just fails to grasp me for some reason.

Plenty is a sort of travel-log, with very little physical distance traveled. The authors choose to only eat food grown or caught within a 100 mile radius of their Vancouver BC home where they live together for one year. At first they think that it will be too easy, then they think it will be impossible. In the end they're wrong on both accounts. But they become blogging celebrities before long. The 100 mile diet becomes famous in a lot of the parts of the internet that I visit. The authors alternate writing from chapter to chapter. Each chapter is a month of their experiment. Each month you wonder what the other author was thinking, and sometimes you get answers later. The book is written very personally even though there are two people writing it, even though they are a couple. They gain an understanding of the foods they eat, meet the growers and the fishermen. They discover sources for foods they thought they'd have to go without. You too can learn how to can tomatoes, make jam, and make a root cellar on your apartment balcony. In the end Plenty, like any travel log that ends hapilly makes you want to do what they did. And eating locally shouldn't be that hard right?

An entertaining piece of historical fiction tracing the ownership of the Shroud of Turin from first century Jerusalem to the present day. Anyone who found the Da Vinci code entertaining, or enjoys church-conspiracy, Knights Templar-related fiction will probably find this enjoyable. The book was originally written in Spanish, however, I don't think the English translation is great. Sentences read very awkwardly in many places.

The history is interesting yet dry. It also appears that certain historical facts are sugar coated, sometimes by a lack of further elaboration on historical happenings. For example, we learn that the National Guard has intervened at various points in history in Latin America, and that these incursions have in turn provoked various protests across the United States. However, the book doesn't go into much detail on the Guard's mission in Latin America. To be fair, the book is short and replete of splendid pictures that occupy most of its pages; an exhaustive analysis of the Guard's history is beyond the scope of this title. The pictures, collocated from various government museums, are fascinating.

I love this book not just becuse it is my husband's but because it is really good!!! It is for an age range of about 8-15, but I enjoyed it too and I am a lot older than 15. ;) I have been through the whole process with him of seeing this book come to be. I have watched it be revised over and over again. I never knew so much went into writing a book. I now have a new respect for all you authors out there!!! Pleas take the time to read this book. You won't be sorry!

There are some truly excellent poems in here. There are also some pretty middling ones, especially those tinged with Victorian melodrama and yet lacking in the macabre qualities of Poe. Up and down, but not a hard or a long read.

The "one Cumorah" theory set forth in this book seems to hold more water than the Mesoamerican theory enshrined by FARMS, making this book an important one. Unfortunately, Aston's writing is unpolished and awkward, making it difficult to follow his arguments. If he were to hire an editor to help with a second edition, it would be well worth reading.
