The Lady or the Tiger is my most favorite short story ever. Even though the ending frustrates the hell out of me.

This was a book club book that I really enjoyed. A lot of historical information plugged into a true story of a family who helped save Jews during WWII in Warsaw. Not quite a novel but I still got really into it.

The intriguing and at times unsettling story of Deirdre Flye – code named Dragonfly, a grit and nails woman who owns a security company catering to the rich and famous. No one knows about her past training as an Assassin at a cult establishment called Stone House which had burned down under mysterious circumstances. An inquisitive local police officer suspects that there is more to Deidre than meets the eye and suspects her of her assassin connections. When her current security case takes a sinister turn, Deidre finds that she needs to confront her evil past while at the same time protecting her future. Raised to be a cold, heartless assassin in a cult where spells are routinely performed to torture and control, and cruel exercises are demanded with the goal of making people stronger, Deirdre struggles with her true identity. She finds herself discovering her own true humanity as she struggles to protect an innocent child whose life is in danger as the result of evil forces. The dialog is at times, a bit choppy “ I want to bed you.” and “Am I alive or dead?” but there is plenty of action that moves the plot along. “Deirdre, are you going to let them take me? When the time comes, are you going to try to save me? Lora's expression was too intense. Tears swelled in her eyes and one trickled down the tan face and dripped from her chin onto her shirt. Deirdre didn't want to wipe it away, didn't want the physical contact with such a pure soul. After all Deirdre was raised to be a weapon, raised evil. “I'll do everything I can to keep you safe.” Magic spells, intrigue, an old legend involving a sacrificing a child which would then lead to a return of power, and stealing of souls - Magic Rising: Dragonfly has a little bit of everything to keep you on the edge of your seat. It is an entertaining read with a satisfying conclusion that leaves you wondering where Deirdre is going to go next. It should be noted that due to graphic violence and sexual material the author carries a statement on her website indicating that all material is intended for readers over the age of 18. Why I love this adolescent series is beyond me. I thought the friendship between the girls was unhealthy at times. I hope a kid doesn't use it as a guide but It didn't stop me from reading!

If you like historical fiction this is a must read. Uris is one of my favorite authors.

This is the second half of "The Hand of Thrawn," the first half being "Spectre of the Past." It successfully resolves all of the many problems and situations set up in the first volume; it's a very detailed and involved story with more view-point characters than you can shake a lightsaber at. Almost all of the characters from the original three movies appear (though Chewbacca spends most of his time offstage looking out for Han and Leia's three children), as well as many characters from previous books. I was pleasantly surprised by it all.
Damn the Devil is evil...it's something you just know but when you read his interactions with people whose soul he's after...well damn! Fast and furious read. I LOVE the cover...check out those abs... Recommend.

I'm really surprised by the number of bad reviews this got. I absolutely loved 'Kafka on the Shore! 'Norwegian Wood' was my introduction to Murakami. It was Given to me with the warning that it wasn't 'typical Murakami'. I couldn't agree more. Don't get me wrong- I liked it, but it was far too much of a romance. I read 'Kafka on the Shore' whilst I was an au pair, I felt quite lonely at the time, and a bit lost, with no real idea where my life was going. Kafka made all this OK. Some how Murakami made all the surreal elements blend with the narrative in a way that made it interesting but not unbelievable. This may be a result of his meticulous descriptions of everyday actions. I have read this book about five times now, I would very much like to read it again, but every time I buy a copy, I end up giving it away. I think this is partly because I want everyone to enjoy the book as much I do, and partly because its pretty much impossible to describe it (the characters, the plot, and the experience of reading it) in anyway that even approaches sense. It's a bit like trying to explain a dream that made compete sense until you opened your eyes and started talking about it. I don't think I'm really doing it justice here- 'Kafka on the Shore' is surreal, real (even mundane), and amazing- read it!

"It lacks a cohesive structure." What movie is this applicable line from? First correct response gets an original haiku proclaiming my unfailing friendship.
