Read this one a few years ago. Typical Jody Picoult. Good read, but I didn't like the ending.

This book is a memoir that tells of the unbelievable sacrifices of one group of American paratroopers in Easy Company as they fought to liberate Europe from the Nazis. The book chronicles their training and eventually the D-Day invasion, as told by their commanding officer, Major Dick Winters. Although few of them would consider themselves to be heroes, they are in my book. The conditions they suffered through were brutal. It is sad that there were so many times when the soldiers didn't have the warm clothing, weapons, ammo, or food that they needed, and yet they persevered and claimed victory. Warfare has certainly changed. WWII is a stark contrast to the high-tech wars that are waged today. I'm so thankful the Allies were victorious against Germany and Japan, liberating so many people and preserving our freedom. God bless them all, those brave men and women that fought in WWII, and those that have fought since, and are continuing to fight today against tyranny and terror.

Do whatever you want and whatever you think will bring you happiness
4.25 stars! A pleasant surprise. When I first started to read this book and discovered it was a murder mystery, I almost set it down. You see, I'm not really fond of murder mysteries. I'm so glad I pursued the story though. The solving of the murder is secondary or possibly even third to the real story: the subtle nuances and dance of the Saudi culture regarding men and women. I've read many novels from the woman's point of view but this is the first that also explores a man's perceptions of this culture. If you enjoy exploring other cultures this is the book for you. I was mesmerized by Derraris' writing, descriptions, and portrayals of religious etiquette (not that I could survive the culture, mind you but now understand it a little more). Bravo! I will read another by this author!

About a girl with a great talent, who seek revenge on her crooked father and lazy mother, and her wicked headmistress. I watched the movie, too. And It's awesome! Especially love the scene when Matilda was adopted by Miss Honey, she prepared the adoption papers herself! Secretly, I want to have a magic finger like Mathilda.
Chloroform in print, to steal a line from Twain. I could not finish it & received a C- in a course for refusing to read it, discuss it, or write about it.

I think I should've read this when I was younger. It was more interesting historically than as a piece of literature, but it did make me wonder how the hell Che ended up in Cuba, so I need to learn more.

This is a Vampire story - I seem to be reading a lot of these at the moment! - and I enjoyed it for the most part. Lara's background is quite horrific and Feehan plays out the repercussions of such horror throughout this novel instead of glossing over them. The best thing about the novel is the relationship between the two characters, although I was a bit taken aback at some of the scenes. The worst thing about the novel was the Women's Rights vs Men's Role as Protector aspect. I'm not a militant feminist, and in fairness, none of the female characters in the book were, either. However, I got very annoyed with one female character who started making quips (about being barefoot and pregnant) while her partner and Nicolas were trying to protect her and Lara from being killed. This kind of writing does more harm than good, I would think, to women's rights. Getting priorities straight and having respect for the people (be they male or female) who are trying to save your life is more important than quibbling over Women's Rights in such a situation. Feehan did manage to put across both sides of the argument fairly, and while there was no consensus reached, at least the characters were trying to understand the opposing point of view. It wasn't a bad read at all.

It reads thick, like Pynchon. Be cautious, the first chapter or two might scare you away, but it does succeed and climbing steadily. The concept alone should stick you. If it doesn't... what the hell is wrong with you?

I love it when I find a suspense writer that makes me hold my breath. Hinze did just that in her book, Forget Me Not. The plot is fast moving and has twist after twist which will have your muscles knotted before you reach the end. Her main character --let's call her Susan for now.... Is that who she is? Who knows? And why does everyone think she's a woman who was murdered? It takes awhile to find out and that's what makes this book a page turner.
