Similar story structure to her first book, Labyrinth, and similar place setting (close to Carcassonne), but still enjoyable.

Fantastic nature writing and a deep story about family and loss. It can be sad, but definitely not depressing, and a beautiful insight into Utah.

I struggled with this book. It is well written but Diane, sister to Marnie was mentally ill and I think some of the things she said and did made it hard to want to read more. It is not an uplifting read, and has a sad ending.

If you have any interest in Iran/revolution/women in Islamic countries: read it. I read Lipstick Jihad and Reading Lolita in Tehran first -- very readable memoirs that give good historical context for Persepolis, if you want a how-we-live context vs. a deeply political/ideological context. Anyway -- Persepolis fleshes it out visually -- I probably would have been lost w/o reading the other 2 first, but I LOVED this. Super quick read (1 day/maybe 2), and worth the time.

I am naturally drawn to historical fiction, especially that take place in the Victorian era. That aside, I am truly glad that I was drawn to this story. Amelia is a country girl from Maine sent to live for the season with her affluent family in Baltimore to find a husband and be introduced to the polite society that her small town Maine roots cannot possibly afford her. Falling in love with a person beneath her status and simultaneously developing a gift of premonition were not expected to be on her dance card. Well developed and compelling, this story not only gives a unique insight to the middle class North East of the late 19th Century complete with social and moral expectations of the young ladies, but explores relationships between friends, family, and the classes. I honestly can't wait to see what Amelia does next!

Some of the other reviewers complain this book is cliche, predictable and unrealistic. Okay, yes. It was a little "after school special". But not so much that I couldn't enjoy it. Did it challenge me? No. Did it surprise me? No. Was it realistic? No. But I've had more than my fill of challenges, surprises and reality lately. The escape was more than welcome. I recommend this book, but not as fresh fodder for the high-brow intellectuals. I recommend it as a soothing balm and a welcome reminder of things too easily forgotten.

OMG!! An excellent read. I had the sequel for months, but of course I couldn't read it without getting this one first. I was definitely not disappointed. The story had a lot of unexpected twists and turns and kept my attention from start to finish.
