I thought the book was bizarre and gloomy to read. I kept waiting for it to get to the point. I do appreciate how historically significant his style was and how Anderson influenced Steinbeck in his common man characters. He wrote about what they are thinking, not what they're saying.

I probably would have given this a 4 if it weren't the first of 8 books. That is just too much. Too much time, investment and war. Bleh. I loved the Aussie-ness - the slang, the settings, the land. It really made me miss my dear Aussie friends. Sigh. Good - woulda been better as a one-off. But whadda I know?

A decent read and adequate model of short term therapy. His goal is to find the core relationships and the common themes that come up in them. Basically, in each therapy session 3-4 (on avg.) relationships are discussed by the client. Examining the conflict that is expressed and the themes allow the therapist to get to some of the "meat" of the psyche. I like this book in principle and the ideas it stirs up, but the method is too behavioral. If you follow the method properly, you are keeping graphs and monitoring relationships in a very behavioral format. Still a good read.

It took me awhile to get into this book - I just didn't click with David, but I think that was by design. In the end, I'm glad I read it, since it was incredibly thought-provoking and without a clear moral. I'll be mulling it over for awhile.

This is stil one of my favourite Atwood books. Much much more enjoyable a second time around mostly because I know the ending and could read the book reflecting on it. The world of Gilead is frightening but so brilliantly executed and I still think the Historical Notes at the end are a master stroke. Offred is a truly unforgettable narrator and as dystopias go Atwood paints a very real, very frightening picture. She's an incredible author, it's making me think I could spend the whole summer reading all her novels all over again. Brilliant book :)

I liked the haunted house aspect of this last book in the Bone Island Trilogy. It was quite a quick read and much better than the second book. I liked Liam and Kelsey and I loved that Bartholomew got his ending too.
