pretty good book. an eye opener and full of warnings of what the future may bring. i liked it, but would prefer something with a little hope. i guess that was the point, but yea i can see why people like this book.

an old historian and unreliable narrator tells the life story of his grandparents and of its absolute influence on his own life. Wallace Stegner writes beautifully about the West

I really enjoyed learning about current French culture and (indirectly) current British culture. It's really funny read this book and see how a guy from Britain lives when he's suddenly transplanted into France: actually, Paris. The story was very funny, very entertaining, had some good moments of suspense... all in addition to teaching me more about France. And I now see there are two sequels and a non-fiction book on a similar topic by the same author. More the read!

While the end chapters are now slightly dated this is still a highly relevant short discussion about underlying patterns and regularities in the web. As a technologist and network thinker myself this is a book I should have read years ago and I'm glad I finally did.

I'm definitely buying copies of this book to send to my family - it will be difficult to not want to past in postit notes for individually relevant sections but knowing my brother and sister, they would probably not read it - or think that nothing in it applied to themselves. *le sigh* Personally, I am keeping this book at hand as a reminder, will pick it up and refresh my memory of its contents and follow the exercises recommended within. It's a keeper. Short and pithy.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I loved the characters, despite Marlena being a little cookie cutter as the damsel in distress. The story was exciting and interesting. I loved Jacob, an affable, silently suffering veterinary school drop out. Some of the relationships the characters have with the animals is a little contrived, but I don't really know what a bond between human and those kinds of animals is like. I found myself disappointed when the book ended, just because I was so fond of all the different personalities, humans and animals alike.
Borrowed the audio book from the library. It was long, but I enjoyed it while knitting away :)

Funny stories, but I'm not that into written funny for some reason...
Read this for Battle of the Books, but really enjoyed it. Set in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, this story is about a young girl, Livy Two, who is part of a large and ever-growing family led by a dad who keeps promising to write a top-selling banjo hit and a long-suffering mother who does everything she can to provide for the family. I thought it ended rather abruptly, so I was glad to find out that there is a sequel.
Well, crap. Kenyon's done another one - the kind of book you feel guilty for reading because you KNOW it's cliche and not even very well written, from a technical standpoint. I mean, every chapter is like a re-write of the last one, at least as far as internal dialog. You know, "Why do I want her so much?/I can't have her/Oh my poor tortured soul etc, etc" But DAMMIT IF IT DOESN'T GRAB ME. So, apparently she's doing something right. Maybe it's her mastery of angst ridden immortals. Maybe it's the explicit(awesome)sex scenes. I have no idea. This is outside my norm. But... *sigh* I know I'll be reading another one soon...
