This book was a quick, entertaining read, kinda like watching a sitcom. Although the book is full of funny corporate situations, I didn't feel particularly attached to the characters, and by the end didn't care too much about about what happened to them. This book reminds me of Sellevision in terms of its lightness, but I don't think this one was as funny.

Margaret Atwood is truly an insightful academic and entertaining speaker. I really liked this lecture series and recommend it highly. The ideas she brings forth are very important to us on an individual basis and foreshadows what may come in our global society's near future. Go get this book! You won't regret it.

So much better with the paintings, churches, and architecture within the text! I read this in eager anticipation of the movie, of course.

really enjoyed this one a LOT!!! It was about a teenager boy who was on his way his senior prom, but saw his younger sister, Annika, laying face-down in the family's swimming pool. He rescued her and brought her back to life, but then she slipped into a coma. This event changed the family a lot in various ways, and what I enjoy the most was the main character, Monroe's thoughts to himself. The reviews compared him to Holden Caulfield of The Catcher in the Rye. He was very witty, and so real. I even had to double-check a few times to see if the book was a memoir, but nope - it was a fiction. It definitely became obvious at nearly the end. I do not want to elaborate any more, unless you've read the book, and then sure, I'd love to discuss that in-depth! There were many stuff and ideas in the book that I really liked, and these that made me really think, or clarified some of my beliefs and thoughts. I picked two; "They're not heroes, they're not Gods - they're just people," page 243. "Heroes are there to be loved, but not to love you back. How can anyone respect you when you put them up on a pedestal? They'll always be looking down at you. I'm not saying heroes are a bad idea, even if they do disappoint you in the end. Maybe that's what they're there for in the first place. Maybe that's the whole point. As your heroes fall away and you're left standing, you realize you can do whatever you want. You realize the only person you have to live up to is yourself." page 244. "God never gives us more to deal with than we can handle," page 250. This is definitely something we all need to remind ourselves of when things get to be a bit too much.

an interesting read. more like a highlight reel than a team history. repetitive in places but this may be reflective of the book's format. No, I'm not--my wife is. Go Niners!

Not as good as previous novels, but still an enjoyable read.

Bryson is a literary comic. His books are hilariously accurate and quite easy and fun to read. I don't exactly remember how I got started on Bill Bryson, but I read probably three or four of his books during my high school years. They're quite enjoyable.

John Grogan is an excellent writer/storyteller. His tales of growing up in a strict Catholic family in Detroit suburbs is humorous at times, nail-biting at others, and each chapter leaves me wanting more. What talent--I'm glad I picked up this book. I ended up bawling near the end, but don't regret reading this book. Grogan's writing is inspiring.
