I'd first read this as a teenager and was pleasantly surprised at how well it held up to a re-read nearly ten years later. I'm hard pressed to even decide on a favourite out of the three books contained in this omnibus edition -- they're all well-crafted, engaging reads. There's something deeply indulgent about the Wraeththu universe and all of its impossibly beautiful, eternally young characters, but it's indulgent in the best possible way; here's a war-torn, violent world one almost can't help but want to dive back into. And more than that: beyond the shiny veneer and despite their cast of larger-than-life characters, the novels' emotional notes ring clear and true over and over again. This is one of their true strengths, I think; it's almost unexpected and all the more impressive for it. There are some interesting thoughts to be found regarding gender and sexuality as well. I was afraid of finding the books simplistic in their views -- the premise, after all, is of men turning into hermaphrodites, rendering women obsolete -- but that wasn't the case at all. In the end I was quite happy with how the issue was handled and questioned in the text itself. With all of the above said, this trilogy is definitely not for everyone. I think one needs a healthy enjoyment of (and corresponding tolerance for) drama and romance and fairy-tale creatures of fey beauty to get anything out of it at all.

Astounding. As most 19th C literature, takes a bit to ease into, but worth the effort. A surprisingly bawdy love story for its time. I suspect a second read would be beneficial - there seems to be a good amount of satire that I missed due to the subtlety of the time period. Said to be the best example of the transition between romanticism to realism.

Without a strong Austen background, this book is sort of uninteresting (though maybe there's not the parallels I imagine there are). I found all of the characters quite bland and didn't really care what happened to them. Perhaps I would have gotten more out of this book had I recently read more Jane Austen recently, bit is an easy, light read that actual Austenites will probably enjoy.

Fantastic quick read, and its a classic. The main character has a foul mouth, so be careful before suggesting it to any kids.

I love Sundown and Abigail's story. I love that it brought in a new background with the Cheeroke. I do hope Ren's story will also be told. Love the bonus at the end of the book.

I thought this was a good book for helping people really think about "food" and what is "food." I enjoyed it, especially the latter section with suggestions about how to improve one's relationship with food and how to get good food and get away from imitation food.

Fun page-turner to read! Read like some of Dekker's older books that don't delve into fantasy/allegory but with less overt Christian themes.

Interesting view of some teachers' experiences in Teach For America - resonated with my own experience. Learned more about the history of the organization.
