Confesso que foram as aulas mais anárquicas da Cásper Líbero, mas sempre marcadas por grandes indicações de livros. "Aos Olhos da Multidão" (título em português) foi um deles. Na época era um livro raro, somente encontrado em sebos ou distribuído obscuramente em fotocópias. Felizmente a publicação foi reeditada no Brasil com outro nome, "Fama e Anonimato", título bem mais próximo do original. "Frank Sinatra está resfriado", uma reportagem onde se fala com todo o mundo exceto o astro, é imperdível. A crônica sobre os gatos da Big Apple e o texto sobre o autor dos obituários do NY Times também são deliciosos de ler. Saudades da época (que não vivi) em que os jornais prestavam um verdadeiro serviço à literatura.

Michelle Spear spearmichelleffc9 — Mr.Monk and the Blue Flu; by Lee Goldberg is a book about Monk. Monk has OCD. When the police force goes on strike Monk gets his job back. His team is a bunch of psycho, demented freaks. When stopping a serial killer and a string of murders is on the line. Can Monk pull his squad together and stop this madness. This book hooks you and keeps you guessing until the culprit is revealed. I like this book because it gives you a thought and slowly reveals it giving you possible theories. It gives you a great hook with Monk getting his job back and keeps you wondering if he can handle it.

Ted Kim rvnnyc — ** spoiler alert ** This is the first book in the series that I call the Houston Series. I read Blue eyed Devil first and now that I have read Sugar Daddy I know the background of that one as well. Liberty Jones moves to a small town in Texas called Welcome when she is 13 yrs old, with her mother and her mothers boyfriend. They move to the local trailer park and she quickly meets a boy named Hardy. He saves her from one of the neighbor ladies dogs. He is handsome, strong, smart and dedicated to his family. Liberty has never felt like she wanted to get close to someone befor, but she is attracted to Hardy. Hardy Cates is a boy on a mission to leave Welcome and seek a better life. His family background and oportunities are not the best, but he is willing to work hard and leave all behind to get a better life. His attraction to Liberty grows over time, but he can't give up on his dreams, so he leaves town and Liberty behind. Liberty is left to raise her little sister when her Mother is killed in a car accident. She doesn't have much to look forward to in her life with no opportunities. When she sees a limosine parked at the cemetary after her mothers funeral, she wonders who it could be, but puts that aside. When she applies to go to Beauty School and is turned down, she is dispairs. But soon after she is turned down she gets a call saying that she got a scholarship. Liberty and her sister live frugally, and try to make the most of their life. While at work one day Liberty meets a very rich and famous man that seems interested in her and her life. Over time he and she become friends and she looks to him as a father figure. When he is trhrown froma horse and breaks his leg she goes to his home to give him a hair cut. He proposes a new job for her as his assistant, including living at the house with him and his sister. She is worried about leaving the life that they know, but the opportunity is too great to pass up so she and he sister move to his home. But not everyone is happy about the situation. Gage the oldest son is wondering weather there is something between Liberty and his Dad. He warns her away from the job, but Liberty takes it anyway. Over time Liberty is attracted to Gage and they begin a relationship, but when they attend a party on New Years Eve her past Love Hardy shows up. Hardy wants to pick up where they left off and start a life together. When Gage finds out that she wants to figure out her feelings for Hardy, he is jealous and angry. But Gage doesn't stand in her way to figuring out her feelings. Hardy on the other hand finds out some very important information about a deal that Gage is putting together and sabotages the deal. She is angry and embarressed that she made such horrible mistake that has hurt Gage, but she finds that her old love for Hardy isn't what it once was and that she loves Gage more than she thought.

Hoa Hoa lth264c1da — I didn't know this was an old book until I began reading it and noticed some references that dated the book. I also didn't know it had been made into a movie! Neither of these facts influenced my mixed opinion of the book. I enjoyed the author's writing style and ability to illustrate the way seemingly tedious events influence the path of one's life as much as big events do. The author also did a wonderful job of demonstrating how difficult it is to break away from one's comfort zone and what the rewards can be once you do. I thought the characters, except one, were more akin to the tedious events than the big, interesting ones and often found myself struggling to get through the book. The character who initially attracted me to the book was a dog trainer. My high hopes for her were dashed as soon as the author noted her use of a choke collar, but still, I gave her a chance. In the end I was turned off by her over the top "uniqueness." I should note that her training techniques were typical for the mid-80's, but it did influence my opinion of her. Overall, I thought it was "okay" and helped to pass the time. It is not a book I would recommend, nor will I keep it on my bookshelf.

Javier Madrazo _adrazo — This review is for the novel version of Nightwings, which is comprised of three tightly linked novellas. Robert Silverberg is possibly the most underrated sf writers of all time considering how long he has been at it and the numerous awards he has won and been nominated for. For some reason, he just does not seem to be "in vogue" these days. It is a pity that most of the younger generation of sf readers today have never read anything by him. What Silverberg does better than almost any sf authors writing today is to write short stand alone novels with very strange plots and excellent characterization. His special talent us to drop the reader right in the middle of a strange place and time of his imagining and gradually acclimatize you through his story telling skills rather than just making an infodump. Nightwings is set on Earth but in a future so far flung and strange that it may as well be an alien planet. There are many guilds and mutants and genetically modified humans populating the earth which is about to be invaded by rather reasonable aliens! This novel is both post-apocalyptic and dystopian. It all ends rather optimistically with redemption for the flawed but lovable protagonist. It is astonishing how much plot, grandeur, ideas, subtext, and characterization Silverberg managed to squeeze into one short novel. This book easily goes to my all time best list!
