This novel by Catherine Asaro is quite imaginative, and the fast-paced combat scenes are gripping. However, I do not care much for the first-person narrative style of storytelling. The story is told completely from the perspective of the protagonist, Sauscony Valdoria. Her tendency to indulge in mini-lectures, in her own thoughts, concerning how the technology around her works is an exercise in speaking directly to the reader. As such, it sort of breaks the "fourth wall" for me. Otherwise an enjoyable read. Teen plus, with some non-graphic sex, violence, and so forth.

This book only got 4 stars because I don't like Anna as much as Mercy...she's a lot more docile. But I really did enjoy this book because you learn a lot more about characters who are also in the Mercy series but are only briefly mention and not much is revealed about them. Bran, the Marrok of the wolves (meaning the head wolf in the US) is a mysterious figure and it was fun to learn more about the darkness of his past. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, but I'll warn you now that it isn't quite as entertaining and easy to get into as the Mercy series is.

My sister reccomended this book to me and said that it had teh best ending of any book she had ever read (and that is a lot of books) I have to agree with her. There are all kinds of shipwrecked stories, but this one was so fresh. I loved the journey we get to go on along with Pi, and experience this amazing relationship that emerges between him adn his life boat mate. Absolutly origional and enthralling. And of course - the best ending to any beook I have ever read.

I am in the middle of reading this book now. I am loving it! EDIT: I just finished the book 2 nights ago, I wish there was a second! I love how wild your imaginations got, he descriptons were so realistic.

I never really enjoy Nicholas Sparks and think in most cases, he thinks he's a better author than he is. Against my better judgment, I gave this a try after seeing (and liking) the movie. I shouldn't have; it was again a disappointment.

This was a fun book! A cute way to get in some geography. The older kids hung around while I read to the younger two, and everybody giggled at going around the world to get ingredients for an apple pie.
