I'm so glad I stuck with this one and got to the end, becuase the first 300 pages or so was certainly not very action-packed. By the end, I loved it. THe last page left me wanting more (and thankfully, there is a sequel!) What I really loved about this book was the fact that it was not predictable. It didn't fit some of those formulaic plot lines we are all used to. It tells a wonderful adventure story (including some scenes of terrible desperation and of horrible violence) and introduces us to several complex characters that we want to continue to follow.

Maybe it was because it took so long for me to read, but I found some inconsistencies in the pace of the book and I was hoping for more help sooner for Jack. I truly enjoyed the end when he finally gets help.

This was a page-turner for me. I found it very interesting all the way through. Told with Jonathan Wilkes Booth as the main character, it was interesting to look at the whole event from his perspective and the perspective of those who helped him.

This is one of the best collections of short stories I have ever read. I am the kind of person that doesn't like short stories because they leave you in a terrible and incomplete state after you have read them. But these stories, while far from leaving you in complete state, make you think and actually give you a snippet of a bigger story that you can imagine for yourself.

A fictionalized version of the Kennedy assassination. Loved every lurid bit of it. How can you not like a book that has CIA agents embedded in Denton, Texas and that Oswald was supposed to miss, and the incident was to be played-up as a Cuban to get the country behind a plot to overthrow Castro? Or was that really what happened? Hmmmm..

I learned several phrases previously unknown to me, like "bolt from the blue". Here, let me use it in a sentence: I had read several of the books in the Series of Unfortunate Events several years ago, but they became tedious (possibly because I am not eight years old, but that's just a guess) and I quit, so when my desire to pick up where I'd left off appeared, it was like a bolt from the blue! Anyway, I enjoyed this. Things are finally gettin' crackin' with the whole solvin' a mystery thing. Plus Count Olaf's frequent use of the word cool, as in "that's just not cool, man" was... uh, cool. Man. Oh, and SPOILER ALERT: OLAF HAS A GIRLFRIEND!
