Is it bad that all my deepest thoughts on love are adopted from comic books and cartoons?

This is the first Nora Roberts book I've read in years and it was nice to slip back into the familiarity of the worlds she creates. I loved Mac's story and really responded to the friendship between all the women of Vows. I can't wait to read the rest!

Awesome, well written. This book provides teachers with the reasons, purpose, examples of outcomes, and research for independent reading. It is written in a way that all teachers will be able to gain from, and should read and adhere to this method. At least let some of it sneak into your room, if you are not ready to take the whole plunge. The rewards will prove themselves.

This book, full of interesting statistics and fun trivia about cities, also has a more serious message to convey. Glaeser maintains that cities are absolutely essential for the elevation of civilization. They “magnify humanity’s strengths” by virtue of putting people and ideas in close proximity with one another. They encourage “competition and diverse innovations.” Moreover, he avers that cities are greener (in terms of carbon footprints) than suburbs, and amasses an impressive array of information to prove it. And he calls for more “spacially neutral” policies that advance the cause of cities rather than favoring suburban sprawl.

So, I read The DaVinci Code first and was underwhelmed by Angels and Demons. A little bit predictible (only because I read DaVinci first).

When I first opened the pages of The Kite Runner, I really didn't want to bring any of my expectations to the table. I mean, I've been disappointed by New York Times bestsellers once before (i.e. Prep), and other people's opinions of a book may not always match with mine. In spite of my initial frame of thought, I couldn't help but get sucked into this story. The author does such an impeccable job of bringing you close to a character whom I doubt you've ever known. The way he tells the story causes you to experience all of the emotions, relationships, milestones, and personal changes the character deals with. And the best part -- no details are spared. The author doesn't hesitate to dig deep into the flaws of human nature. That said, I highly recommend this novel for people looking to read something that isn't fluffy but isn't like a non-fiction history textbook either. Highly enjoyable. Put it at the top of your list. :-)

I agree that this is one of the best books in American history. "Of Mice and men" has incredible characters that are easy to fall in love with and relate to such as George, one of the main characters. This book also has such a great scene to visualize because John Steinbeck paints such a great picture with his words. With all the characters, and settings, comes a deep analysis of what this book really means, I mean, I read it and was constantly thinking of links within them all such as the connection to Lenny and George to Candy and his dog. Lenny and George are the main characters and the first people introduced in the book. George is the guy who pretty much watches over Lenny. I also learned early that Lenny is Mentally challenged by the way he talks and acts. During the beginning, Lenny is caught with a mouse in his pocket that’s dead and refuses to give it up. I thought it was hilarious every time he is caught I could not help but LMAO. Another moment that had me rolling, was when he killed the puppy he received, and yelled at it for getting killed. George on the other hand is dry humor, and is never meant to be funny but somehow is. Lenny is a lovable charctyer because he acts like a child and it is adorable. Some more characters are on the farm they work in. There is Candy who is an older man with a hand missing, curly who is a douche, and his wife who is lonely and pisses everyone off. All in which add a touch to the story that makes it so great. When the story begins, a reader can visualize what moment John captures in his novel. This is the most beautiful opening I have ever read. It takes place by the Salinas River and is described like this: “ A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool”. I had to write the whole two sentences because nothing can substitute what is caught in this setting. The author paints such an incredible picture with his words. My analysis of the book was this: Lenny and George had a relationship that was the same as one character Candy and his dog. During the entire book, Lenny is constantly compared to a dog or an animal of some sort, and is often told in incidents he is basically not good for himself or no one. Candy’s dog is also talked about in the same matter. The dog is killed with a gun to the head to alleviate it’s own pain; the same death that Lenny experiences. During the book at this one specific part candy tells George he should have killed his own dog instead of letting a stranger do it. So I guess that is why George kills Lenny before the angry mob does just so he would not end up like Candy. Whatever analysis of the book you come up with, it’s what you decide, but for me it is what I have already written. As a result of reading of mice and men, I guess I walked away with good feelings towards this Novel. I loved the characters especially Lenny, he made me crack up the entire time. The pictures this book put forth were amazing to read and helped me understand the setting. Of course the analysis is what always makes a book so great and this was accomplished because it was so beautifully written, anyone could link these events to other books, life, and the world around us.

This book was intriguing in that it recounts the six weeks that the author spent in a rehab center in an effort to save himself from the addictions that controlled him. The book was initially sold as a memoir, but the Smoking Gun released a report pointing out outright lies that had been fabricated for the story. Which makes sense since there is a lot of over dramatization and a feeling of exaggeration in the writing. Furthermore Frey spends a lot of time focusing on his negative view of AA and the 12 Steps program. He is repeatedly told by counselors that he won't make it without the steps and he continues to insists that he will, saying that the only thing that controls whether or not you do drugs is yourself. However time and time again, many addicts have proven that they need a belief in something more than themselves in order to quit their addictions. It is an interesting read, just know that it is not non-fiction {even if you do find a copy in the biography section of your library}.

Good detail on technique. Not a scheme orientated book.
