I'm not going to lie, i bought this book because the movie's teaser trailer looked AMAZING. That being said, the book was a beautiful story and premise and i actually enjoyed learning about perfuming. However, the POV switched a lot and sometimes i felt like the autor was totally cheating a lot of deatil by quickly switching from one character to another in the narration. Felt the same re: the ending. build-up was amazing and then, a cop out? Almost as if he ran out of the words or passion to give it the 100% attention it deserved. That being said, i'll still see the movie.

I liked this book ok. I feel like it's one of those "first in series" books, that once you read the sequel you will like it a lot more. At least that's what I hope, because I picked up the next in the series.

This is another good story from the inimitable Clyde Robert Bulla, set with a Native American boy as the main character. Clyde Robert Bulla never falters in his winsomely idealistic style, and the result is a very nice book that was truly a pleasure to read. I only wish that Mr. Bulla were still around to give us more excellent new books. I miss his very significant presence in the literary world.

I was drawn to this book because of the cover and blurb that unfortunately was all I was drawn to. By Chapter 1 I was hating the righting style, the grammar and punctuation was nearly never their add a rushed plot line and you get a: Confused reader. A story that doesn't flow well at all. I mean this isn't dairy so their should be speech marks and some thought out paragraphs. Daisy is supposed to be 15 but she never acts that way at all, she is immature and simple minded. The other characters are flat and two dimensional mainly because of the lack of time she puts into describing them. To be honest she puts very little description into anything this makes following the story a challenge. I mainly skimmed and flipped through this book. My best way of describing it is, this is a skeleton for a good book but cramming such a time space into about 200 pages did not work.It was the way a child sees their teen years when they watch programs like the Winx Club. If she had spent more time or if someone decides to pinch the idea of this skeleton and turn it into an actual book then I would like a chance to read it. The idea has a lot of possibility and potential. So to conclude if you're twelve or looking for a quick read then try it but don't expect anything amazing, the hype and praise is fooling.

Somewhat less engaging than its predecessor only in that the arch conceit of the novel, Claudius as emperor, is less complelling than Claudius as observer to royal machinations in the first book. The extensive digressions regarding Herod become tiresome and simply don't match the quality of the earlier work. Presumably these sections should interest the reader because of our more intimate cultural knowledge of Herod in the gospels but ultimately I just wished we'd get back to Rome. Despite these critiques it remains a very impressive piece of fiction and a must read for I, Claudius fans. Claudius' political position as simultaneously stable and perilous keep you reading and the ever lurking danger, despite his level-headed rule, feels imminent.
