I definitely have a bad case of wanderlust. However, this book makes me want to go even further, to pack a small bag, sling it over my shoulder, grab my husband, take the next flight out, and just wander the world without any destination or pre-booked hotel room. When I mentioned this idea to my husband, he rolled his eyes and said it was just because I was reading this book. I agree. I might have gotten carried away. However, somehow, this dream is still sticking with me. This is not a traditional travel guide. He won't tell you where to stay or what to do. It's basically a wonderful passionate exposition on why vagabonding is a great life choice to make. Mr. Potts, the author, gives a lot of great websites, but mostly, he gives practical advice on dealing with unexpected situations or learning to live in the moment. For those who want specifics on what to do or dislike philosophical bents, then this book is probably NOT for you. For those who want to dream a LOT bigger and who may actually want to wander-travel, this book will undoubtedly convince you.

Apparently no one has read this book or even heard of it, so I guess I am a pioneer! This is one of the worst writers ever. The plot is really stupid, there's not even a lot of gore, it's just lame.l But the reason I gave ti two stars is I have never read a book that was so perfectly suited to be a movie. The book has parts where "He turned and his face a ssumed a look of pure terror and fear, and then the black night was filled with shrieks." Just like movie! My favorite part: " 'Christ, skipper, look at those things? What in hell are they?' Carrington blinked and stared. 'Hell is the right word, Mike,' he muttered. 'They look like a chorus line from the infernal region.'"

This is the first book by Augusten Burroughs which is not a single story, but a collection of stories from his real life. It doesn't disappoint - the author is hilarious no matter the length of the tale. This is a good book to pick up if you want to try the author, but fear "Running with Scissors" is too absurd and "Dry" is too alcoholic for your tastes.

I almost put this down during the second section of the book. Nothing really wrong with it, but there was both not enough new to hold my interest, and at the same time too much made-up stuff (see: probability book is good vs. number of words made up by author http://xkcd.com/483/). By the end of the book I thought that the world was interesting, but that the author was too heavy handed in introducing it towards the beginning (and seriously, the word "bag" stopped having any meaning for me around page ten). Not going to buy the next book in the series, but I'll keep this around in the "books to read/give to future children" pile.

Listened to this as an audio book, read by Stephen Hawking himself! It is essentially a collection of his Cambridge lectures and will blow your mind!

The author of Night Shift is a leaner, hungrier writer than the King I remember from high school and I enjoyed his economy and post-classical horror sensibilities. Many of these stories read like Richard Matheson, albeit with more gruesome twists. A lot of this work is familiar through other media, but these punchy tales show exactly how flawed their film adaptations were. "Children of the Corn", "Trucks", and "The Mangler" all far outclass their film counterparts, and the bizarre "The Lawnmower Man" bares no resemblance at all to the film of the same name. Other highlights for me included "Jerusalem's Lot", a prequel to the genuinely creepy 'Salem's Lot; and "I Am the Doorway", a spooky piece of science fiction. The absolute highlight, however, is "The Last Rung on the Ladder"; a heartbreaking story not about things that go bump in the night, but about the disappointment of life.

It took me how many years and numerous viewings of the films to finally get around to reading the Harry Potter series? Probably because I waited for it to become available on my nook so I wouldnt be "That Guy" who bought the actual book at a book store. Yes I am that weird about reading a treaseured childs book. As expected, the story is extremely deserving of all the hype and at some point I definitely can see myself enjoying this with my own offspring if one ever comes along. I wont go into anymore because I am sure there are millions of other reviews already out there.

A girl name Lessa plots revenge on her family's killer.... A man named F'lar bides his time until he can take over the Dragon weyr, and gain control over all of Pern.... Together, they will revitalize their dying society and save their planet from the deadliest menace of all: Thread! This book is one of my favorites, and will be until the day I die. The characters have a vitality that is gripping and exciting, and the best characters of all --- dragons! --- are absolutely charming. Everything in the story ties together, and no plot line is left unresolved. Any age would enjoy the world McCaffrey created, and although I sense it was written for an adult audience, to my mind, the prose is best-suited for a middle school to high school readership. Boys and girls alike will adore the strong and fiery Lessa, and the cunning yet mysterious F'lar. As for the dragons...well, we are all truly dragonmen at heart!
