Great voice, as always, and beautiful story. I'm also very proud of the fact that the book does not demonize Islam or reduce the conflicts in Sudan to simplistic ideological battles between forces of Good and Evil. I am a little concerned about the role of women in the text, but overall, a book that will surely open minds and hearts.

First person narrative works amazingly in this book. The main character is so endearing, as well as some of his companions. This duology is the first thing I've read by Patricia Briggs, but certainly won't be the last. She can really get you into her stories, bringing believable characters, fantastic landscapes and great emotions. These characters will stay with you long after you've closed the book.

I know Lois, love her dearly, and believe she writes truly of her experiences. It was through following her journey, which involved so many events which could not take place in my current reality, helped me realize how we can each live in separate realities yet meet and communicate in a common space.

A strange book full of gory and creepy tales from the animal kingdom. Not my favorite Sedaris book, although at times it was quite funny.

No wonder they were giving this out for free in Harvard Square.

A great read! I maybe enjoyed Kite Runner a little bit more, because the info about Afghanistan was totally fresh to me. But this one is outstanding too.

This book is a good, quick but thoughtful read. Deftly woven elements of old school science fiction meet slightly fururistic sociopolitical analysis. One part "cautionary tale" two parts global horoscope reading. This book is about the amazing nightmare that is technology and the struggle taking place in society over the question of who has the power to participate in defining the meaning and control of one's life. Sexy but simple, enjoyable summer reading.
Slow read, but ultimately worth the effort.

Walks fictional characters through experiences rehearsing and performing in a play--audition, stage terminology, costumes, makeup, line-prompting, etc. (characters receive tutoring instead of school during a professional play)
D. Travers Scott's second novel, following Execution, Texas: 1987. There's a slightly surreal edge to this tale of four identical brothers and their identical father. It's a mystery in the tradition of Nabokov's The Real Life of Sebastian Knight in which a protagonist tries to ferret out the mystery of the life of a recently-deceased relative. Only in this case the protagonist has fragmented into the four idential brothers.
