Dream-like.

Quick read, and a decent book. A couple of interesting/gross scenes. And, I am not sure I approve of the end (from a worried caretaker's point of view). But, I did like it :)

This book was written well. Short with short chapters. There are times when I had to put the book down because I couldn't handle reading anymore because it was so sad and devestating that someone could do that to a human. There are more books written by Dave Pelzer and one by his brother.

Two Winchester's in a week, oh yes! Well I was enjoying Krakatoa when I went shopping for my BCUK NSSEBS partner and this was on her wishlist, and then I really didn't want to read the book next at the top of Mount Toobie (apologies to those of you getting a feed of this, you'll be out of your misery soon) so ... I had never heard of William Smith, nor indeed did I have any idea just what his map was of when I took the book up to the counter. I can now claim to be much better informed on both counts. This biography has certainly fulfilled its avowed aim of lifting him and his work from obscurity, and placing both in their correct place in the development of aspects of modern scientific thought. However it does seem that I am going through a phase of reading works of non-fiction with hyperbolic titles. Once again, Simon Winchester cannot be faulted on writing lucidly and sympathetically, but he could sometimes do with even tighter editing - both this book and Krakatoa did suffer from a few repetitions, sometimes highlighted by almost identical phrasing, that were spotted by even this rapid reader. I appreciate that there are some mysteries surrounding the man's wife, but the nuggets dropped about her throughout the text suggest that there is more to be revealed about Smith the man by exploring their relationship. Feel like writing a spot of historical faction anyone?

Ellis always delivers a scifi gonzo extravaganza, and this is no exception. This just felt slight to me, especially given how easily the big bad's plan is foiled. I'm also slightly frustrated that no one ever called Cyclops onto the carpet for getting it on with one of the team's arch-enemies. Jean and her memory just get swept under the rug. Everyone has an opinion about Scott's sins of murder, but no one cares about his sins of the flesh? I don't buy it. Best line of the book comes from Storm, of all people: "At this rate, one of Charles' old wheelchairs crossed with Brood DNA will be along any moment." Jimenez's art is amazing as usual, although Emma Frost looked rode hard and put away wet in most panels.

I practically have this book memorized, given the number of times I've read it. Yet it still remains one of my favourite treads on this very old tale, which also happens to be my favourite fairy tale of all time. I'm not typically a fan of first person POV, but Beauty wins me over every time. This is a real comfort read and always leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy after a rough week.

I really liked this book. The focus on Asberger's (which Boston Legal made me aware of) and Electronic Medical Records (because I work in the healthcare field) were very interesting and made for a good page turner.

This right here---> Be Patient, I don't intend to leave you. It's just that I'm in love with her at the moment and must act accordingly, said to Ruth by her husband is what made me stop reading this book. I refuse to read about a woman putting up with a guy's crap while sitting there putting all the blame on the other woman, it's sickening...however I did like how the main character told the story, but still

** spoiler alert ** In Book 2 of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Sookie finds herself paying the piper, so to speak, as she and Bill, her vampire boyfriend, are shipped to Dallas, Texas to find a missing vampire. This is all in the wake of a coworker's mysterious death and a creepy monster that gives Sookie a deadly message to relay to vampire Eric. (Spoilers ahead...) Once again, I have to say it's literary smut... but, somehow the tawdry sex scenes fit into the plot as Sookie and Bill settle their differences after Dallas. I was happy to discover this book was not as raunchy as the first book in this respect... and I had to breathe a sigh of relief that the orgy scene in the book wasn't that graphic because Sookie was able to get the information she needed before things got too hot and heavy. As for plot... this book had a little more substance to it than "Dead Until Dark", and it leaves the reader with some plot devices for the next installment of Sookie. I really enjoyed the tension between Bill, Sookie and Eric... and Eric's choice of outfit for the Orgy was just a hoot. The Dallas plot was really well done, I thought. Though, I am still left wondering about the pastor who attempted to abduct Sookie at the airport. Who was he? We know he was with the church... but not who he was. I thought the part about Godfrey was poetic... how, at the end, Sookie cried for him.
