Two Dohwas?! Is the new Dohwa a reincarnation of the old Dohwa? Or did the old Dohwa possess a body to become the new Dohwa? Awww that means Majeh and Dohwa can rekindle their love for one another. The tournaments sound so cool with child prodigies. Something isn't right about any of them. Crazy Dog sounds like he will be the most interesting because he's 6 and can probably ricochet off the ceiling. This is a solid addition to the series. There's a plot, an introduction of new characters and less jumping from scene to scene.

This book started out very well but deteriorated as it continued. The first four chapters have many excellent ideas and kept me very engaged but I found this book to be slightly redundant in the middle (chapters 5-7) and the end (chapter 10) felt like a bit of a stretch. Csikszentmihalyi's concepts have been mentioned in several other books that I have read so it was rewarding to read his work. While this book does have its flaws (in my opinion), it is still worth reading and I recommend it.

Well, we have some Arthurian myths. Spies and double-crosses. As for the whole "kid who tries to do the right thing, but keeps messing things up, but still gets credit for saving everyone and who has great powers and has an important heritage and lineage," Sanderson does it better with his Alcatraz series, but the book was fine. More appealing to boys, imho. A bit long and poor pacing at times - it could have been shorter by 50 to 100 pages, given how much introspection is appreciated by the reader. "You have no idea how rare that is." "Youth?" "Doing the right thing. Not only doing it, but understanding what the right thing is."

Despite the almost flamboyant eccentricity of the subject matter in Sister Mischief, the characters here really blew me away. I have a soft spot for coming-of-age YA novels because I'm always searching for that "high" of what it's like to be when you're younger and the world is so small but in that time period it's so large and yet conquerable. The combined force of the members of "Sister Mischief" was able to bring me back to those times, much like the camaraderie of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants -- except that each character here is full within herself, rather than 1/4 of the person that the group creates in Ann Brashares' books. The relationships and perspective of each character are easily relatable (especially if you are a minority-type that grew up in rich, white conservative suburbs) and the writing incredibly beautiful without being condescendingly erudite -- Goode chooses her words with care, such as describing cracked ice like "creme brulee under a spoon." While it is a bit jarring to be pulled into the outsider crowd at first, full with twitter, text, and notebook scribbled footnotes, joining the sisters in their junior year high school journey is like reliving all of your most powerful childhood memories with your closest friends. An awesome Christmas gift to the girls that had your back back in the day and stood by your side to watch you grow up.
