Decent. Ian Rankin's Edinburgh stories are loaded with local flavor and feel very rooted in time and place. This is not my favorite, although the main character retires at the end of this one... interesting to compare this to K.C. Constantine's Mario Balzic, and his retirement. Aging, aging, failure and end.

The discussion of Freud is, quite naturally, intelligent; but buy the book for the comparison of Hegel and Freud. some people find Miller's story telling "write like I talk" style annoying, I found it refreshing. Blue like Jazz was not terribly revolutionary for me but it was a worthy read...as have been Miller's other books.
