Decent. Ian Rankin's Edinburgh stories are loaded with local flavor and feel very rooted in time and place. This is not my favorite, although the main character retires at the end of this one... interesting to compare this to K.C. Constantine's Mario Balzic, and his retirement. Aging, aging, failure and end.

Comment: A wonderful book that I first read thirty years ago. The comparison of Hegel and Freud (the ruses of reason vs. the ruses of desire) is simply the single most brilliant discussion comparing these two thinkers that I have seen. The discussion of Freud is, quite naturally, intelligent; but buy the book for the comparison of Hegel and Freud. The ruses of Reason face to face with the ruses of Desire might be the best short description of human life we have...

The book threatened to take the drama too far here and there, but it somehow worked. The only book that has actually made me cry. "Daddy?" You gotta realize, I think I'm the only boy on earth that ran out of Judy Blume books and read Are You There God It's Me Margaret? God?...God?

Beautifully written and full of gorgeous and funny sentences. Didn't want the book or my view into this world to cease. Simply loved it.

Very, very good. Equal parts fantastic and creepy. This makes me excited to see P.Craig Russell's next Gaiman adaptation, the Dream Hunters.

Three narrators tell their story during the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines through folklore and history. I loved it because it reminds me of the stories that my grandfather used to share, so it brings me close to home.

some people find Miller's story telling "write like I talk" style annoying, I found it refreshing. Blue like Jazz was not terribly revolutionary for me but it was a worthy read...as have been Miller's other books.
