Shiver is an awesome book by Maggie Stiefvater. You should definitely read it if you like romance.

As far as I'm concerned, Zenna Henderson was one of the most gifted (though not prolific) authors of science fiction of all, and I've read just about every sci fi book there is. This book, and its sequel, "the People: No different Flesh" are and will remain among my top 10 sci fi favorites of all time. Her books have a magical combination of power and wonder. Complex plotting, fully realized characters, and a completely believable alternate world, which becomes a vehicle for the author's exploration of the nature and consequences of prejudice against and fear of "the other" - the unfamiliar, that which is not ourselves, that which we do not understand.

Stunning photos of some of my favorite chefs. I really love the topic of the "last supper" so I flipped through these little essays for hours. I can't wait to try a few more of these recipes. The Thomas Keller roast chicken recipe is the best roast chicken I've ever made. There is such deliciousness in simplicity.

I loved this book. I read it in literally 7 days because I couldn't put it down. I love knitting and love the occasional cocktail so putting the two together makes a good combination. I loved the three different stories of the girls and their friendship. Also I like how it ended nicely. I hate when books leave you hanging. Makes you realize that life isn't too difficult as long as you have friends to help and support you. I can't tell too much about it though because that would be spoiling.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is the story of an amazing human being. It is the definition of kindness and is described so specifically, thus “stargirl” the way all people should be. Stargirl loves her life giving all that she can to everyone that she meets whether she knows them or seen them around or has heard from the “announcement” section in the newspaper about them. She just cares and shows that she does more than anyone in Mica Arizona has seen. She dresses however, she wants. She accepts people’s criticism for being different, but as she continued to live the way she wanted to the love for her different way turned into hate. People began to hate the girl who never did anything to them but be herself. Then she fell in to what they wanted and began to dress like they did, she quit singing in the cafeteria and became the norm. Then because she was the same people began to hate her. She became extremely unhappy and missed herself. In no time she returned to the strange person she always was. As the book stated “She was illusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. She was illusive. She was today. She was tomorrow…In our minds we tried to pin her to a corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew". There is much more in the book but I just thought explaining Stargirl and who she was, was enough because if I said more I would be giving it away. I recommend this book because it shows the world that there are people out there who care for others. In addition, it shows that not everyone is a person who cares about superficial things. It’s also a good way for people to see that it is alright to be original. And towards the end it shows that you never really know you are in the presence of greatness until you are no longer near it, but somehow the impact of that person is enough to get you through the days. I recommend this book to everyone. Its technically a 5th grade book but it touches everyone. Its message is so clear “Be yourself” but the way its told goes beyond anything I’ve read. The fact that it is small, it makes the fact of reading it so much better. A friend in fact recommended me this book in my acting company. She told me I had to read a book called Stargirl. After reading it, I realized that it was the nicest compliment a person could ever tell me.

i found this book extremely enlightening in regards to what is going on in russia today. the entire book is comprised of 3 or 4 multiple hour interviews that were given by putin when he first came into office in 2000. he talks about where he came from, his life in the kgb, his family, his politics...pretty much everything. after reading it i felt like i better understood him and his way of decision making, and ultimately it's the reason why i stand up for him so much in light of recent shady circumstances.

Amazon.com Review In Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel's memoir Night, a scholarly, pious teenager is wracked with guilt at having survived the horror of the Holocaust and the genocidal campaign that consumed his family. His memories of the nightmare world of the death camps present him with an intolerable question: how can the God he once so fervently believed in have allowed these monstrous events to occur? There are no easy answers in this harrowing book, which probes life's essential riddles with the lucid anguish only great literature achieves. It marks the crucial first step in Wiesel's lifelong project to bear witness for those who died. I listened to this on audio book. I found myself driving along to...work, to the grocery the store, wherever, and I would arrive at my destination with tears running down my face. I had to keep stopping the story to process what I was hearing and really think about the experiences the author lived through. It's amazing that anyone survived the concentration camps. I'm not sure I would have had the will to continue, the desire to persevere the way he and so many others did, in the face of such horrible physical and emotional hardships. It's one of those books that everyone should read.
