_arlos_u
Meles Meles _arlos_u — This is perhaps my favorite Graham Greene novel, and Graham Greene is one of my favorite writers. One thing I love about this book is its dynamic, multi-layered quality. One can read this book as a pulp, gangster novel that simply relates the struggle of a small time crook, Pinkie, facing the threat of being taken over by the infamous mob boss, Colleoni. Or one can read it as something much more complex - a story making sense of a new stage of capitalist, industrial experience where the urban cityscape is transforming into something more alienating and perverse than anything experienced in the 19th century. Greene communicates this by way of content (the struggle big business vs. small business) and by way of form (fragmentation of narrative, multiple perspective, linguistic experimentation...). Also, it's fun to read this text next to Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange. Both works represent deviant youth in the urban enviroment; however, the two authors have radically opposing takes on what "causes" youth violence in the modern city existence (Greene being a "liberal" while Burgess is the neo-con).

_ebbywolfy2121
Sebastian Restrepo _ebbywolfy2121 — :TINY SPOILERS: First I have to to wonder if in every one of the Night Huntress World series is going to be a tale about someone finding the love of their life. It is a tad boring in that sense and too predictable. In this one I find Kira to be way out of her place at points and that just ends up making me roll my eyes. For instance when she says something to Bones when him and Cat are there at Disneyland. Also, what was up with the way Bones and Mencheres acted toward each other in this book? The POV gives me the implication that Bones doesn’t trust Mencheres when in the Night Huntress series books I have never gotten that impression from Bones. In fact, I felt that it was the complete opposite. Yes they have their tiffs but what vampires wouldn’t after so many years of knowing each other? But to not trust him at all or believe him, that was just way out there. I also find that the way Cat and Bones act in the night huntress world series feels different then how they act in their own series. I dunno. They seem so awkward when they make appearances in these books. On another note, who is editing these books? I can’t say for sure but it doesn’t seem like the same person who edits Night Huntress series edits Night Huntress World. I find the writing to be a tad different and stifled. Or maybe it is just Frost trying her hand at something a little different. But what really bugs me is the many mistakes with missing words or misspelled words I find in these books compared to her other series. But getting back to the story, is it really going to come down to everyone in the night huntress world finding the love of their life and getting that happily ever after? It appears that Frost is tying up loose ends and it makes me think the whole Cat and Bones series is coming to an end because of it. I have no clue if this is true but there have been many books in this series so it could be possible. She is a PNR writer though so I guess it isn’t surprising she would write about people finding their soulmate. It’s just a little repetitive you know? And unlike Bones and Cat (who I fell in love with) there is no real wondering if they are going to be together because they don’t have their own series. I fell in love with Cat and Bones because they fought all the time, had problems in the relationship to face, and she ended up running off in the beginning. Hehehe. Reveling in the memories. I don’t know, maybe this series just isn’t for me. I’ll keep reading it especially when the one on Vlad comes out. I can’t ever give up on anything I swear it’s a downfall sometimes.... LoL. <3’s and fangs, Liz ^_^

_abriczio_clar
Fabrizzio Claros _abriczio_clar — Ten Miles Past Normal is an adorable coming-of-age story that explores finding one's path through high school. Engaging and funny, it is a very quick read and thoroughly enjoyable. Janie is an engaging heroine, and her voice is quite authentic. In fact, she reminded me of reading Connor's writing, which never fails to make me laugh. Anyone who has ever had anything embarrassing happen to him or her at high school can definitely relate to Janie's desire for normalcy. Yet, is being normal really desirable? Ms. O'Rourk Dowell's writing is simply fun. Her characters are larger than life but thoroughly realistic. They blaze their own trails and live large. If one needs a lesson on how to experience life without succumbing to peer pressure, Ten Miles Past Normal is a manual to do just that. It does this without being preachy and does it in a very charming way. Adult fans of young adult fiction will enjoy Janie's predicaments and life observations. The target market will find a kindred spirit in Janie and Monster. Ten Miles Past Normal is a refreshing break from the paranormal romance. Reminiscent of Anne Shirley, with her own quirks and foibles, I hope you get the chance to get to know and enjoy this plucky heroine.
