One of the most interesting books I've ever read. Not like anything I've read before .

Disgusted. Appalled. Horrified. Shocked. Unamused. That’s how I feel about the last few pages of Faefever. I did not see that coming and it’s not something I enjoy reading. My own fault for running straight for the shores and not paying attention to the SHARK INFESTED WATERS warning signs that were blaringly evident in the reviews I avoided because I was (1) caught up in the Fever hype and (2) staying away from the spoilers surrounding Barron. That gang rape scene was something AWFUL to read. Yes, you read me right the first time. I have no desire to perfume that pig, so I’m just calling it was it is. To read that scene as it was happening to the MC, who was quickly becoming one of my fave female fictional characters, is a feeling I don’t even know how to describe. ~wipes tears~ Barron, hun, you’ll have to keep your little mystery to yourself for a little while longer. I don’t think I can pick up the next two books that I’m kicking myself for purchasing, at least not for a long while until this feeling subsides. Lastly, I’m truly curious what kind of backlash KMM received for writing such a degrading, horrific, disgusting scene. I’ve seen authors crucified for lesser grievances…

I love Diskworld. I love the Silver Horde (especially now that I'm approaching their ages and their mental capacity). My only problem with Pratchett books is that they take so long to read: I keep laughing out loud and I have to read too carefully so that I don't miss any of the puns and workplays.

I skipped the middle of this book and went to the end after reading the first 150 pages just to see if it redeemed itself. It didn't. The father was still an asshole and never learned the error of his ways. The plot formula is old and tired. If you need something predictable and brainless, go with this. An extreme let down after Firefly Lane. The only character I cared about ended up gone for a very long time and the rest were just pathetic.

Grace St. John has been framed for murder. She knows who the real murderer is, and the shock is overwhelming. She doesn’t know exactly what she did to deserve this cruel fate, but she has reason to believe that it has something to do with the ancient pages from the Knights of the Templar that she has been translating. Forced to live her life on the run from both the police and the murderer, Grace spends her time working low paying jobs and attempting to translate the Gaelic pages. She is determined to find out what is so important about the pages, and also find a way to destroy the real killer. Surprisingly, she makes a few friends along the way. Eventually she discovers that in order to keep the secrets of the Knights of the Templar out of the hands of an evil man, she will have to travel to ancient Scotland. She needs to find the Highlander who is guarding the Templar’s greatest secret and greatest treasure. Is it possible, after everything she has gone through, that Grace will find love in the past? I chose to read this book for the 2011 Highlander Reading Challenge because it is on Karen Marie Moning’s favorites list. KMM is one of my favorite authors of all time, so I figured any book she loves would be a book that I would love. By the end, I did wind up loving this book. But truthfully, it took a long time for me to get into it. The entire first half of the book was about Grace’s life on the run, and it all took place in present day. This part of the book would have been a 3/5 rating for me. It was written really well, but all the hiding just overwhelmed the story. I would have preferred spending a lot less time in present day and a lot more time in the fantasy side of the story in Scotland. The second half of the story was incredible strong. It was as well written as the first, but it was also layered in fantasy, magic, love, and excitement – all of the elements I look for. I would have definitely rated the second half of the book 5/5. To be fair, I suppose I should average the two for my overall rating. I do highly recommend this book to fans of Highlander books, but just be aware that it will take a while to get to the fantasy elements. Also keep in mind that this is not part of a series

I was so excited to read this book after finishing The Looking Glass Wars which I absolutely fell in love with. However, upon reading about halfway through I completely lost interest. I did eventually finish it if not merely for the fact that I needed to return it to the library and hate to leave things incomplete, but it was nowhere near the caliber of the first installment of this saga. It's unfortunate because I'm not sure if I will read the third book if there is one. It was still decent, but I was expecting a lot more out of this one.

The prose was amazing, but the story was slow in places and it was complicated enough that you couldn't put it down for too long or you wouldn't know what was going on. I'd recommend reading The Crying of Lot 49 if you want to try pynchon and then reading V. if you want something longer with the same prose style and a slightly worse story.
