This book was somewhat slow to get going, mostly because there is a whole new mythology to be introduced along with the characters. Once I had a good grasp for the world of Shadow-Hunters and their task to keep humans safe from Downworlders and demons, I was able to appreciate the story. I loved the witty banter between Jace and Clary, the plot twists and turns, and the mystical world of the Shadow-Hunters.

This was my first WB book, and is a 3 way tale of a woman going through a bit of a crisis, her mother's apparent paranoia that someone is out to get her (the mother) and the journal written by her mother that reveals her secret life in WW2. It's well written, entertaining and made me want to read more from the same author... always a good sign!

Pablo Neruda's poetry really did change my life. This particular cover of this collection reminds me of the summer of 1996, when I was subletting on campus and living in a little girl's room. The girl was gone for the summer, so I was sleeping in her bunkbed. Anyway, I really wanted to learn Spanish because of Pablo Neruda. I remember completely mastering "tengo un coche blanco" and "tienes un coche blanco" (because Chris had a white car, aka Babe) but little else. Anyway, I eventually did learn Spanish, and that was because of Pablo Neruda, so he changed my life in that way too.

I gave this a three becuase it wasn't good enough for a four:) The storyline and the whole little-town-ghost-story plot was reasonable enough. Good bits: I loved the whole setting, the village and the cemetry. I liked how the story was based on sleepy hollow and even involved the author:) It was enjoyable reading. Bad bits: It wasn't enough action-paced for me. There were parts where almost nothing happened. They had a bit off Bella/Edward going with the whole , i can't kiss you (bla bla bla!) They waited till the end to give away the entire book! (there is a followup) Over all: 3.5/5

Great new fantasy novel. Hard to find in America, I think there's actually another new book that came out with the same title by a different author, so I got my copy online. More swords/knights than elves/dwarves, this book follows several characters and I can't wait for the next book in the series, whenever that may be.
