This Barnes & Noble Free Friday book for Nook owners was truly a gift. Elizabeth Chadwick delivered an excellent work of historical fiction based on a true story. In addition to weaving a compelling story, she included period language and historical accuracy that added to the richness of the tale. If my history books text books had been this good, my career may have taken an entirely different direction. It has been added to my daughter's summer reading list.

Loved it. As a first-year teacher, it was really comforting to read about all of his self-doubt. Listened to it in the car. McCourt is a great reader, and I loved hearing it in his accent. Haven't read his other books, but he seems like a sad, down-on-his-luck guy, like maybe he suffers from depression. He's so interesting to listen to, though.

For my age this book is realy nasty and I never want to read a book like this again. I can be mature if somebody says the word "sex" but this book uses every other word I dont want to here at this age. On the other hand it does teach you what can happen if you get ingaged in sexual intercourse at an early age. I only recommend this book to people that can handle it and are interested in things like this.

I bought this book for my 9 year old niece and read it before giving to her, so that we could discuss it. I thought it was a fun story of good vs. evil; of believing in yourself in order to accomplish all that you want to do; of caring for others; of not being "moonblinked" (brainwashed) and so many other issues that are brought up in the context of the brave little owls. :)
