I think this was the best of all the books in this series.I loved Cassie and Elizabeth. She is an amazing mother and very protective. But so was Dash.He was protective and carring towards Cassie even when he didn't know her. When Cassie started sending letters to Dah,he was very badly injured after a mission he had taken. Her letters gave him a reason to live and thus he wanted to find her and her mother and help them. When he did find them he was determind to protect both mother and child. He used every contact he had to ensure their safety.Elizabeth finally got to trust him and let him do what he thought it would be wise to do.So they send Cassie to live with Callan Lions and his pride so they could find Grange,a druglord, who is after Cassie, cause he knows that Casie is a breed. After they sent her away,Elizabeth and Dash complete the process of their mating and later they train together in order to take Grange out. When Grange returns to his mansion Dash knows is their best opportunity to take the information he has on Cassie and condemn him.But while things go like planed and they are ready to leave with the information,Grange takes his gun, while Elizabeth does the same, aim each other and shoot.Grange takes a bullet between his eyes while Elizabeth takes a bullet in her chest. I really loved this book. The end was just a bonus..... First posted on: http://sofialovesreading.blogspot.com/

The psychology of the mind and how we operate is always a fascinating subject, but I suppose I was expecting more. Lakoff is clearly a "progressive," and it shows. Not that that's a bad thing, but I think the book would have benefited from being more balanced and accessible from a wider variety of political perspectives. But maybe that's what he wanted - this should only be a tool to be used by progressives for furthering their agenda, since he believes that conservatives have already done a great job framing their agenda (to our detriment). What I got out of it was a more general understanding of how we need to frame issues, be the political, social, religious, or business, if we want to change minds and have an impact. Brains are wired a certain way and how we approach things is important to "winning hearts and minds." As much as we would like to think we are "new enlightenment" rational actors, our brains just don't work that way. Perhaps knowing this and taking advantage of it is a bit subversive, but it's better than hitting your head against the brick wall. Emotions matter, symbols matter, word choices matters. All of these can be used to influence others. This book appears to be an expansion of his previous work "Don't Think of an Elephant." I have not read that book, but browsed it at the library and am fairly confident that The Political Mind (at 304 pages) covers everything in the smaller "Don't Think of an Elephant."

I read this in 2 days on the beach on vacation. it was a page turner but overall I didn't really find it that compelling. I thought the twists were predictable. I did think the descriptions of Chicago, st Louis and rural wisconsin at the turn of the century were interesting.

Catching Fire picks up a few months after the end of The Hunger Games, and trouble is brewing in Panem, Katniss Everdeen’s country. After her ‘s and Peeta’s victory in the Hunger Games, they became instant celebrities, and they are very uncomfortable with their new stardom. Then, Panem’s president pays Katniss a visit full of threats for her and those she loves. Katniss learns her victory in the Hunger Games has caused people in other districts to chance an uprising against the country, and President Snow is none too pleased. When he leaves, Katniss is left feeling cold and worried for the lives of those she loves. In order to silence her, President Snow announces the Quarter Quell (a Hunger Game) for Panem, and all past victors of the last 25 years will be participating. Let the games begin...AGAIN! Collins does an excellent job of drawing you in, wrapping you around her writing finger, and making you want to keep turning the page. The reader grows to like Katniss and Peeta even more, and cheers for them as they face each challenge the Gamesmaker has created for the participants. Katniss is a strong, caring, female character who has the weight of her country on her shoulders, and you pull for her every step of the way. The twists and turns Collins brings to the story catch the reader by surprise at times, and they keep you wondering what will happen next. Because of the ending, I can’t wait to see what happens in the third book. This is a book well worth reading, but you should read The Hunger Games first to appreciate each character and to better understand the games.

By a British author - "Cosmic" and "brilliant" along with Brit quips are part of the story. Liam's favorite word is "Cosmic." He's 12 years old, but is tall for his age and has whiskers. He and Florida spend Saturday afternoon at the mall and go to shops that require an adult. Going to a new school, he was mistaken for the new media teacher and gave a speech in front of the whole school. Liam enters a contest for riding a new ride at a new amusement park. The contest if for the best dad. Liam's dad won't enter, it's a fraud. But Liam won't listen and enters as a dad with his friend Florida as his daughter. Liam prepares a permission slip for his parents to sign about a special gifted and talented field trip. Liam observes dads, how they dress, how they talk, etc. so he can be a convincing dad. He is coached by a book called "Talking to your Teen" and refers to it often. While Liam and Florida are on an outrageous adventure without parental units, Liam's dad does come to the rescue, because that's what dads do.

I loved this book! I really related to the main character, in that I'm creeping up on 30 (ugh) and feeling the pressures of getting married, etc. It's overall a really entertaining read!!
I read this book after I attended Book Club where it was discussed, so I pretty much expected most of the instances throughout this book, expected to cry at the end, planned to be horrified by the horrible things throughout... But the parts that were not discussed at the meeting hit me more because they were unexpected. I did cry at the end {I think about 5 tissues worth} and I loved every minute of it. A wonderful book, worth reading for sure.
