I didn't enjoy this book as much as I expected to, especially considering it won the Booker Prize. It may also be that it seemed just a bit too similar to other Indian fiction I've read, and yet not as powerful as some of my favorites. It didn't really engage me until the very end-the middle was particularly slow for me.

I loved this book! It totally hit home since I have a 9 year old boy and 6 year old girl! It made me laugh out loud while teaching my kids a lesson. Can't ask for more than that!

This trilogy has 2 books worth of set up, I'm on the last one and I all the loose ends better tie together. I can usually skim some protions of a book and not miss anything, but the way Hobb writes you have to read every word. I'm not sure if I think that is good or bad.

Quick and light chick lit read. Nice change for me since I had been reading a lot of non-fiction lately. I usually don't like when authors leave an ambiguous ending, and the reader is left to decide what will happen in the future - but I actually felt it worked in this story. It also made me hope for a follow up to this novel - maybe a few more and make it into a series - just to see what happens with Mimi's career and love life....
