FOUR WOMEN. FOUR. OUT OF TWENTY-SEVEN. I didn't do the research to check the ratio of authors of colour, but I'm pretty sure it's low to nonexistent; and, as usual, the authors are all Anglophones. Can you really say this is the 'year's best' when you haven't considered the rest of the world? I understand that the editor is somewhat constrained by other people's choices in a reprint anthology, but Dozois was a magazine editor himself at the time, so I don't let him off on those grounds. I might cut him some slack if he got anywhere near a reasonable ratio, but, as discussed above, FOUR. I'm glad he supports Eleanor Arnason's short work (I got this out of the library for her story, which is wonderful), but there are probably other people-who-aren't-white-dudes doing great work that he could be supporting too, you know?

It lands in my Top 3 for Stephenson, right after Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon. Like the latter, it builds slowly and then punches you in the face around the last 20% of the book, coming across almost like some big-budget summer blockbuster. Sandwiched in between action sequences are Wikipedia-like segments that show how well certain topics were researched. These bits may read a bit too dry for some, but if you're still following Stephenson's work at this point, you're probably wired to receive them correctly. I like reading a book that entertains and also teaches me something about the world, but that's just me...

Best book hands down that I have ever read. I read this book non-stop and I wish it were 1800 pages longer. Incredible story, journey and I've definitely learned about myself through reading this book. I even took a trip to Mumbai to search for some of the places that Shantaram hung out!

Anyone who seeks out growth and is interested in Tantric principles will find this book valuable... This book is an incredible source of enlightenment and teaching... The book is divided into three main sections. The First being channeled material. Tom Kenyon channeled beautiful information from the Magdalen... The second section is application of the Egyptian alchemies discussed in the first section. Finally the third section is Tom's wife Judith's story... Very moving.. I very much recommend this book, even for those who may question channeling, there is such viable and usable information here.
