Panagiotis Mos dr_os — It lands in my Top 3 for Stephenson, right after Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon. Like the latter, it builds slowly and then punches you in the face around the last 20% of the book, coming across almost like some big-budget summer blockbuster. Sandwiched in between action sequences are Wikipedia-like segments that show how well certain topics were researched. These bits may read a bit too dry for some, but if you're still following Stephenson's work at this point, you're probably wired to receive them correctly. I like reading a book that entertains and also teaches me something about the world, but that's just me...

Janiece Okpobiri janiecelincoln — I raced through this book. I felt so strongly protective of and interested in the characters, but I couldn't help feeling that it lost its way a little around the halfway mark. Perhaps a change of perspective so we could understand Ma's point of view as well would have been interesting. Fours stars for the first half, two or three for the second.
