My 5 and 8-year-old boys loved this story. It was also a chance for them to read in a simplified comic-style setup, which they have had little-to-no experience in.

A sweet story about a little mouse who is too fidgety to sleep. He hears all kinds of noises and needs constant reassurance that they are normal noises that don't require attention. My son demands this book every night. And has for the past 5 months, ever since we got it. It is a very cute story. On every page, with every noise, Little Mouse asks to crawl into Big Mouse's bed and is turned down. This is definitely something little kids can relate to. The pictures are well done. There are little bugs hiding on every page, and it is fun to try to find them.

The blurb says, "the serial killer obviously had some surgical knowledge". Well, the author obviously did too, and don't we get to find out! I'm all for an author writing what they know, but when surgical procedures are described for no reason other than to show off, it's irritating and boring. The story wasn't a bad one, okay but nothing more.

I read this book before I read "The Memory Book" by Lorayne and Lucas and found that much of the same material is covered in both, but in entirely different ways. It's really an "either or" decision between the two based on what you want to gain. Personally, between the two books, I prefer Higbee's book because of his thorough examination of memory, its history, case studies, analogies, and anecdotes. I find it to be inspiring to see its great applications and that most people benefit greatly from these techniques. This style helped me to retain enthsiasm to learn and yet was written in a plain and often humorous style. "The Memory Book" has its own benefits. It lays everything out in easy to understand instructions and lists a few dorky "party tricks" you can do with some of the techniques (though who's really going to entertain friends with "memory feats"?). Lorayne and Lucas do offer something not offerred in Higbee's book: short chapters dedicated to using memory techniques for specific tasks such as learning music, stock symbols, sports plays, or locations. These chapters make up a small portion of the book and could easily be read off the shelf at a local bookstore. To sum up, both books offer up basically the same exact memory techniques. It's up to your own learning style to decide which one you prefer.
Announcement: turns out this book is very very good. Hard at first, but The New Bloomsday Book: A Guide Through Ulysses helps a LOT to get you started, and I think the whole second half is like coasting downhill. Among the many things I didn't expect was how much pathos the characters had; Bloom is a sweetheart and a dreamer, Stephen is sad and wild, Molly is complicated and alive. I think my top favorite episodes/chapters were Circe, Ithaca and Penelope. But I loved The Wandering Rocks, Nausicaa and The Sirens, too. Basically it's beautiful and filthy and complex and amazing. If anyone else has read this or is going to, let me know -- I'm desperate for people to talk to about it! ** I'm twittering my way through this. twitter.com/readingulysses This time, it's personal.

Again, we find a breathtaking romance mixed with the supernatural, but not the kind of superantural we're used to. This book is gripping, as is the whole series.
