this book was amazing, fascinating, enthralling, suspenseful (though maybe only if you haven't seen the movie which i hadn't) and heartbreaking. read it if you like true crime (which this is not), (auto)biographies, psychology, fiction, anything really. this woman is amazing and i can't believe what she lived through and the process it took her to get through it.

I didn't read the first essay because of content, and the last essay seemed weak, though I'm not sure if that's because I wasn't interested in the subject matter or because the footnotes were replaced with arrows pointing to randomly placed boxes. I really enjoyed all the other essays, though, and would definitely recommend them.

I liked 'Bonds that make us free' better. Same idea and author written for a non-business audience.

definitely a good, uniquely written book. I think this will be a popular one. didn't capture me as much as some other books, but it was engaging and hard to put down.

I read this as a child and, for some reason, I have the desire to read it again!

I was blown away by how beautifully this book was written. I found myself being transported into the middle of the scenery. Kathleen Cambor has a way with words and she paints a vivid picture. This book read like a thriller even though the outcome was known from the beginning. She does a fantastic job of showing the variety of people who were affected by the events, and her research, despite the book being fiction, is on the money. I was so moved by this book that I actually got David McCullough's Johnstown Flood in order to learn more. (Unfortunately, after Kathleen Cambor's prose, I found it a bit dry and plodding.) I highly recommend this book even if you have no interest in history. The characters are memorable, the prose is delicious, and you won't soon forget the plot.

My pre-k class loved this book. They used to sing the song all the time. This book is good for teaching math as well because it starts from five and then a monkey falls off every time decreasing the total number of monkeys left in the bed. Children can try guessing how many monkeys will be on the bed next etc..

Ugh, I started this and just couldn't bring myself to care enough to finish it, so I'm quitting. The writing is so horrible that I found myself skipping parts right away from the beginning. Plus, it probably doesn't make sense due to the subject matter and title, but it was too barfy religious for me. No thanks! Moving on to something I will enjoy!

I've read a lot of Michener but this one might be my favorite. I knew nothing about Poland before reading this book and it inspired me to learn more about the that part of the world. Very interesting.
