Seriously, claiming Martin's "Songs of Fire and Ice" is as grand as Lord of the Rings is like saying Walmart is a grand haberdashery. This book is certainly the sleeveless confederate flag t-shirt every toothless hill-billy would dream of owning for that special wedding event to their sister. Unfortunately for me, I've started down the path and made it through Book 3. I must continue to see how he manages to kill off the remaining Starks. Three down (he played catch up for missing one in book 2). There's 4 left (books and non-bastard Starks) which probably equates to 5,000 pages until their all gone. Yay!

I loved Elise Juska's "Getting Over Jack Wagner" so I thought I might like this one too. It was ok, but it wasnt as good. The subject is very interesting: Charlotte's daughter Emily is very different from her: Emily is a very liberal new age type & lives in an "alternative living arrangement" with her black boyfriend & another couple. She comes home to visit Charlotte, who is divorced, & she's pregnant with a biracial baby. She wants to get an abortion but Charlotte doesnt want her to. The boyfriend wants to marry Emily & keep the baby but Emily doesnt want to get married.Like I said the subject interested me, but the story is very long & includes lots of description thaT really wasnt necessary, it could have been told in half as many pages & been just as good. I'm not going to tell what happens at the end, if you want to find out read the book.

These books just get darker and darker and sometimes better, think the second one is my favourite. Not really kids books after the first one, seem to remember the later ones really freaked me out as a kid.

If you are looking for gore then look no further! Every Dead Thing is just about as gory and brutal as you are ever going to get from a book. It begins even before the first chapter and there are deaths every few pages - killings in the most shocking manner. I had a couple of problems with this book. To me it felt like it could have finished at the half way point - it has two different main plots running through it at the same time. There are way too many characters to get to grips with and at quite a few moments it felt like I was just trying to plough through and get to the point. Having said that, it did actually keep me ploughing through - it was gripping enough to have me turning pages and as I got nearer to the end I began to read more quickly... I had already guessed the twist and knew who the Travelling Man was so it was a little disappointing for me but might not be for others. Charlie Parker isn't the most intriguing of characters and I much preferred Angel and Louis so was glad when they became pretty central to the plot - I think that was what is making me give this a 3 rather than 2. Recommendation Perfect for anybody who likes gore and death from their reads. Avid crime fans will probably get a kick from this but be aware that the ending is fairly predictable...

You're first introduced to Anansi in American Gods, now you get to meet his sons. It was, as always, a great book, though not one of my favorites.

Beautiful love story......

Sookie has a long list of suitors and major mishaps. Her life is one screwball weave of disaster of both love and life. Though, personally, Sookie is an adorable character, I find that her continued lack of commitment to one man/shifter/vamp grating. I was annoyed that the ninth book in the Stackhouse series didn't give me any sense of closure, in fact I was so absorbed in the book that I didn't realize it was the end and was disappointed that there was absolutely no closure for the story lines that have followed her throughout the series, save one. It was too short and didn't leave me feeling anything but irritation because the book just dropped off as if there should have been about ten more chapters. In fact she opened more lines to which she didn't explore or finish. I enjoy Sookie and all her crazy problems but this book ended much too short for my liking.

Ha! Though I found this book entertaining (in the 6th grade, and again, on the beach when I was about 21) just because of the sheer trashiness of it, it is really a horribly written book. I have never seen so many exclamation points in one book in my life and I don't care to ever see that many exclaimation marks again for as long as I live. Though, it is just like a soap opera and it draws you in. I won't lie, I read the whole series... exclamation marks and all.
