tramppa34
Samuli Tramppa34 tramppa34 — Seriously, claiming Martin's "Songs of Fire and Ice" is as grand as Lord of the Rings is like saying Walmart is a grand haberdashery. This book is certainly the sleeveless confederate flag t-shirt every toothless hill-billy would dream of owning for that special wedding event to their sister. Unfortunately for me, I've started down the path and made it through Book 3. I must continue to see how he manages to kill off the remaining Starks. Three down (he played catch up for missing one in book 2). There's 4 left (books and non-bastard Starks) which probably equates to 5,000 pages until their all gone. Yay!

xabbu
Axel Axel xabbu — I had trouble believing that this was a true story, or based on a true story. The main character, "Katie", is being sexually abused by her father, and when she finally tells someone, she is kicked out of her home and placed in foster care. For a girl who was "surrounded by wealth" and supposed friends, it made me wonder why she didn't call either her extended family, or her many friends and ask them for help or a place to stay. The fact that Katie "got lost in the system" was also incredibly unbelievable, especially since she was placed in a foster home that was just a few miles from where she grew up. Her courage in helping others in her situation, while it sounded like a heroic thing, seemed a bit forced. All in all, while this did open my eyes to the foster care world, I've read better fiction books that dealt with the same topic 100 times better and with more reality!

Sandra Ingerhage sandrainge1ce1 — I should have done a review when I first read this, but I never did. *sigh* Once I do a reread, I'll post one. Anyway, I loved it and can't wait for Nicky's story!

tom_hobbs
Tom Hobbs tom_hobbs — This was a light, easy to read story which was perfect for the rush of Christmas when I read it. In fact, I read all four of this series over the Christmas holiday. It was interesting and moved at a fast enough pace, but not too deep. Dominic Cord and his wife, Clarice are sent to the village of Cottisham to take over for an elderly Vicar who has gone on vacation. The villagers are very nice and the young couple fall in love with the place...that is until they find a body in the basement. There are plenty of suspects, most of whom you don't want to see found guilty and several others you would like to be the murder, but it seems as if they couldn't be. The answer is clever and comes after some little bit of danger and a lot of suspense. A great Christmas read!
