Wow. This is the first book in months that I've felt compelled to write down my thoughts on - I adored it. At first I wasn't quite sure about it, as the language was so "unflowery" and her writing felt a little jarring to me. It only took a few chapters for me to get used to the style, though, and after that I just found that simple language beautiful. The plot of this story was heart-wrenching, and any time I get to use that adjective to describe a book you know it's got to be at least 4 stars ;-) It's an amazing storyteller who can make a book so completely tragic and yet completely satisfying at the same time. My heart absolutely ached for these characters throughout the story - and the setting of WWII Soviet Union was a perfect backdrop for a tragic love story. Tatiana is my new favorite female hero - a tiny little 18-year-old who is the most unbelievably strong and courageous person. Fifteen minutes after I finished this book, the next in the series was purchased and up on my Nook - can't wait to continue the story!

Not very well written, but fairly interesting/disturbing.

I didn't think I would finish this massive book in August, but over the weekend and last night I couldn't stop reading it. I already knew the basic plot, but even so I couldn't put it down. I admit I skimmed the historical tangents, mostly because I wanted so badly to get on with the story. There's a lot to unpack here, and in my thinking about it, I've only scratched the surface. All I can say now is that I loved it.

Starcrossed was an outstanding and noteworthy read that will take the hearts of millions of readers! It deserves a place up with the all the big-shot books like Twilight and Harry Potter. This impressive read has earned its place as my favorite book, EVER! With the gorgeous cover, a setting that I could image vividly, and the distinct characters, Starcrossed has blown my mind away every single time I've read it. As rare find, this diamond in a enormous pile of pebbles, has been written phenomenally by Josephine Angelini. The characters that she has penned show an enormous amount of labor and perfection. Every page turn leaves you thunderstruck for more! Yes, thunderstruck, as in breathless or astounded. Read the book to find out why my word choice was a peculiar word like thunderstruck! The small island of Nantucket was a completely absolute choice for the setting of the book. By adding Modern mythology with the setting and the people, Josephine Angelini made a book with scenes that had the reader always at some high level of emotion. I was gloomy when the scene was somber and elated when something good or humorous happened to Helen and the Delos family, especially Lucas. Helen's character was uniquely like me. She was a bit of an outcast, different from the others of the island some how, and some one who cares about her family a lot. I loved the cute little scenes between her and Lucas during her first stay at the house in 'Sconset. To me Lucas was a terribly handsome and charming guy, after the Furies, that is. The mysterious Hector was a character that I never really understood completely until close to the end of the book, but in a good way. The Modern Greek mythology that was one of the main topics in the book gave the book a meaning and plot. An epic tragedy that has been going in cycles for years must be some how broken by Helen and Lucas. Figuring out who Helen and Lucas throughout the book made me have many dazzling epiphanies. I am a Latin student, so knowing the myths and legends already made those epiphanies even more astonishing. The drama and romance in Starcrossed was at a high level that was set just right for an incredible read. There were a few random point of view switches from Helen to another character that to me really brought some light onto those characters as well as Helen. It was something surprisingly pleasant to experience! Josephine Angelini should receive an infinite number of awards for this compelling read that made you want to scream at the top of your lungs for the next book in the series! My Take on the Cover: Words can not be found on any language, extinct or still used, to describe the cover perfectly! The girl, who I presume is Helen looks absolutely stunning in the dress that weirdly resemblesa toga. The incoming storm and the breathtaking ocean converge into a stunning background! Though I didn't notice before, the girl seems to be standing at the edge of a crater. The crater was created by two characters in the beginning half of the book, which if I giveaway, it would be a spoiler. The cover was the best I have seen yet this year in all of the books I have read!

Terrific "it-was-the-summer-I-fell-in-love" novel, with some classism issues and a nice big dose of moral ambiguity.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical that this would be a book that I would like. But, it surprised me and I found Twilight to be one of those books that really pulls you in to the story itself and the characters, and by the end it leaves you wanting to know more.

I really liked the art style of this book. The story jumped around a lot, from "2 hours prior" to "five minutes after," for really no good reason...the gimmick didn't serve the story. But again, great art, thus it's worth a read.

I read Robert Fagles' translation. It is stellar.

BATMAN: BATTLE FOR THE COWL (2/5) Has any of you ever wondered who would become Batman in case Bruce Wayne ever died? It's not an irrational possibility; the man does a dangerous job and despite his vast abilities, his life is constantly on the line. Naturally, a comic book hero is never supposed to die, especially when he is of that magnitude. But just in case Wayne ever...went away, who would protect his beloved city from the homicidal lunatics that swarm it? Some years ago, Chuck Dixon and Doug Moench attempted to answer that question with their KnightSaga. During which, Bruce Wayne is crippled by a vicious criminal and a young man named Jean-Paul Valley inherits the mantle. As some of you probably know, the man was slightly less psychotic than the freaks he was hunting down (Joker excluded). After reclaiming the mantle, Wayne passed it on to Dick Grayson, his first and best Boy-Wonder. Despite the Dark Knight's expectations, Grayson fails as well in his role as Batman, his disastrous performance resulting in one man getting killed along with endangering the original Batman's life. Conclusion? Bruce Wayne sucks at choosing successors. So, I guess it's a good thing he is not around this time to repeat the same errors. However, without the king present to hand over the crown (or, in this case, cowl), the would-be successors are locked in a fierce battle for the right to be called the next Batman. The candidates are naturally the three ex-Robins; Dick Grayson, Jason Todd and Tim Drake. Well, to be exact, Drake is technically still Robin but he will stop soon enough. He sure seems ready for the big change as he wears a costume Batman used to wear during the '70s and roams the streets. Todd on the other hand prefers some more...originality. So he basically builds an armor of a suit that makes him look like a really lame version of the stereotype devil, equips himself with a couple of handguns and starts killing thugs. On the other hand, Grayson avoids wearing the costume and keeps his Nightwing identity throughout this story. He mainly deals with Damian Wayne who after the "Batman R.I.P." storyline is left with the Bat-family. He is so much of a pain in the a$$ that at some points you might find yourself feeling sorry for Grayson. He is in really bad shape here. Emotionally, I mean. He takes no part in the fight between Drake and Todd until it's absolutely necessary. While the three sons of Wayne fight over who will inherit the family business, the revived mob boss known as Black Mask blows up Arkham Asylum and frees its patients. After finding a way to control them, he sets them loose all over the city. In the off-chance you don't know or can't guess who becomes Batman by the end of this book, I won't spoil it for you here. With its plot twist rendered useless by common sense and the mystery being lame beyond words, few will see anything in this story besides the visually impressive but yet still flawed artwork. Tony Daniel falls below his usual mediocre storytelling abilities here and wastes one hell of a promising project with huge potential. Shame.
