this book was incredible! it makes you think about the importance of journeys and of finding your true self. the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars was because it was written in a semi-childish manner. however, that enabled me to read the book in a few hours. regardless, half of the book is underlined with thought-provoking euphorisms and words that have the potential to change a person forever. corny. so true.

Finished another in the series with my son. I was surprised that the author came up with a new book given the year these series started. I Googled the author and found out that Franklin Dixin is a pen-name and that the series is owned by a publisher.

Max and the flock are back. While she continues to keep the flock safe, she also has to figure out how she is supposed to save the world. The evil plan is days away from unfolding. Half of the people in the world are going to be killed in order to give the worthy ones that remain a chance to thrive. The human race has done such a poor job of taking care of the planet that the Itex Corporation decided only the people with something to offer deserve the right to live in it. Another problem the flock is dealing with is the creation of an updated version of Erasers. Now made of metal and covered with a layer of skin, learning how to take them out takes a little time - especially since these "Flyboys" come equipped with guns! Relationships are strained within the flock in this latest installment of the Maximum Rides saga. Fang continues to update his blog and attempt to enlist children from around the world to become involved with the fight against Itex and all its subsidiaries. Max doesn't have faith that kids can help, which of course, causes friction between them and ultimately leads to a split in the group. The reader is tugged along on a roller coaster ride adventure with Max's constant sarcastic commentary to guide them. We see familiar faces as well as meet brand new players in this deadly game. Max manages to thwart disaster, reconcile the flock, and discover the identity of her parents. James Patterson does a nice job of tying up loose ends and leaves the story with a satisfying ending. If there isn't a fourth installment, fans will be happy with the way Max and the rest of the flock land on their feet.

She dresses differently, acts differently and feels differently than the usual high school girl. For one brief moment in time almost the whole school embraces this unusual girl, but it all comes crashing down in a heartbreaking ending.

this is quite simply my favorite book i have ever read...and reread...and bought several copies of for friends. it casts religion in a humorous light, while still respecting the origins of the stories. It is also, endearing, funny, poigniant, and engaging. read it. again and again and again.

I really did like this. I wish I could say I completely understood it.. but then it felt very much like Alice in Wonderland. Much of it was based on nonsense words and a class/political system that is foreign to me. (And being an Anglophile, I didn't feel it was a very British class system, altho maybe too subtle for a non-Brit to pick up.) But Fforde and his sense of wordplay has me fully in his grip. I laughed quite a bit at the library scene. And I enjoyed the whole hierarchy of the Colortocracy. This is supposed to be a series of 3 books, and I wait with about as much impatience as I wait for his Thursday Next series.

I listed to this book on my iPod - and I LOVED it! It was extremely well read by the narrator and the story of Gypsy Rose Lee's life & times was hard to stop listening to. The background history of vaudeville and burlesque, the Minskys in NYC and life on the road is unforgettable! Gypsy's mother was a real "piece of work," from a long line of similar women. I didn't know they were from Seattle, so I learned that, and a lot more from this well-researched, well-written and wonderful book.
