This three part book series is the best when getting into Darcy's head. Aidan has really blown my mind. I watched BBC's P&P with a new light. If you're going to read Darcy's version, this is one to get.

I love Frank Bascombe. Independance Day and the Sportswriter informed my opinions on some of life's big topics during my twenties. Some of those opinions have changed with age and hindsight (as have many of Frank's), but my love of the Frank Bascombe "voice" hasn't diminished. However, the final fourth of the book feels rushed and the ending is less than satisfactory. But with Richard Ford it's always the ride that I enjoy anyway, not the tidy plot resolutions.

For the most part I quite enjoyed the various short stories in this collection. They were interesting, different and even humourous. I did find the last couple a bit more of a chore, but still found them very interesting. I found the essay a good overview of what the Culture is all about.. anything and everything. A very good introduction to Iain Banks' unique writing style.

This is supposed to be based on a true account...but it seems a little off to me. The writing does not come across to me as an authentic diary of a teenager, but more like an adult trying to pass it off as that.

This book tells the stories of US soldiers and their family members in their own words through personal email, narrative writing, poetry and even fiction. This is the real face of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Support the troops by actually reading what they have to say.

The language in this is beautiful. I read The Alchemist a short while ago, and I think this does what The Alchemist fails to do. I really felt connected and moved by this, and that, at the end, I'd gained something from those short pages.
