Lena Ali loloooo — Through an interest in Wilde's theatre pieces, I decided to check this book out. Wilde's only novel. It's not surprising that there is a strong existential tone to it. What would it mean to live forever, but have all your age and misdeeds captured in a magical painting. After some critical thinking, I'm still debating whether I would have done better. Would I accept this gift and curse? Could I make it worth more with the way I live my life? Awesome book, very thought provoking.

Deborah Pritchard dp_coycob87c — I love Frank Bascombe. Independance Day and the Sportswriter informed my opinions on some of life's big topics during my twenties. Some of those opinions have changed with age and hindsight (as have many of Frank's), but my love of the Frank Bascombe "voice" hasn't diminished. However, the final fourth of the book feels rushed and the ending is less than satisfactory. But with Richard Ford it's always the ride that I enjoy anyway, not the tidy plot resolutions.

Vladimir Perepichay profartdesign — Fascinating. Like splashing the first section of Ginsberg's "Howl" with water kicked up from Rimbaud's "Le bateau ivre" and putting it in prose. Really wish this copy was not mine, and not borrowed from a friend.
