Plain and simple...I loved this book. Great characters...strength yet failings, a little humor, a believable quest, and romance. What more can you ask for from a book. I see that Goodreads gives this a series name. I was thrilled at the end to find a real conclusion instead of the usual up in the air ending of a series book. And I can see no sign of a sequal coming out. Anyone know when it will be published?

This book is an excellent choice if you are in your twenties, confused about your career and live in New York (it seems like many books address these topics). I am not going to write a hugely long review except to say that there were two very specific passages the resonated with me in this book and I won't easily forget them (their pages are folded over in my copy - that's right...I'm a page folder!). One involves personal sacrifice for art and comedy on the same two pages; the other paints a beautiful passage about sadness and loss using the demolition of a minor league baseball stadium of all things. I don't like sports that much but this bit of the story was so poignant that I've re-read and re-read it. So that says something for this story's impact....

Great humor, always loved the Xanth series with the double entendre's and puns galore! :D Thanks to Jeremy for the introduction.

I tired to read this book for a second time and again I couldn't make it past the first 10 pages. Leonard Cohen is one of my top 5 favorite music list, but I don't like his prose at all. All of the literature in the James Joyce style of "steam of consciousness" or whatever you call it... when the text tries to confuse you... no, it doesn't cut it with me. Though I can't say Cohen's text in this book was incoherent... you just get the feeling immediately that it's more about the writer than about telling a story the reader will be enriched by.

I enjoyed this book--though I wouldn't say that it is necessarily one of her better books, I still liked it enough to finish it and would read the next one in her series. While I get that the author has a Russian missionary background, I feel sometimes that she goes a bit overboard on how she portrays Russians in America.
