Man, I love this book. It was my first introduction to epistolary fiction, and it's just so adorable. Now the fact that she called her romantic interest Daddy throughout the entire book wigs me a bit, and Jervis is so high-handed and lacking in candour that I'm deeply suspicious of him, but I'm gonna put down Judy's trilling that he's right most of the time because he's years older than her to the mushy-brainedness of the first flush of love, and believe that she's going to be able to handle him. Still, the whole love subplot, Pygmalion and Galatea, is dodgy in the extreme. I like the romance subplot in the sequel-of-sorts Dear Enemy better, but that book has lots of other dodgy things. Things I didn't like when I read this as a wee kidlet: Jervis? What the hell kinda name is that for your romantic interest? Sheesh. When the only nickname you can come up with is Jervie, you know, you might wanna consider changing the name. Things I liked back then, and still like now: Judy's resolute independence. Her delight in the books she's catching up on, which everyone else has read: Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes, etc. etc. The letter about Pepys, because that was the first time I'd ever heard of the dude. The doodles. The digressions on clothes. Coming to it fresh now I think I'd probably find it a little precious, but I can't imagine not being charmed by Judy's spirit and sense of humour.

This is a wonderfully true, tragic account of a freak-of-nature avalanche written by a woman journalist (unusual for a true-adventure story). The avalanche occurred in 1982 at the Alpine Meadows ski resort in the Sierra Nevadas. I was in my second year of college then and loved reading and recalling the rugged ski patrol crew plus, having learned to ski in Ohio and not skiing outside of New York and Pennsylvania where avalancle control was not needed, the details about avalanches, snow, etc. are facinating.

I know, the girl's name is Belly, which is short for Isabel, but once you get past the name you don't think about it anymore. This book makes you think about first loves and kisses and all those feelings that go with it. Part of the ending was sad and sort of unresolved. Then, the very end...where did they go? I really enjoyed this book.

I never like a new audio book as I begin. But I really did like this one by the time I finished. I tend to think I don't like Neil Gaiman, but then I remember that I have never read anything but him that I didn't like... A toddling boy escapes the knife of a man named Jack who has killed the rest of the boy's family. Bod Owens is then raised in a graveyard by ghosts, a vampire, and a werewolf but longs to join the unsafe, outside world and to avenge his family's death.

Fun, I enjoyed being able to create my own spiderwick-style world.

I just finished this amazing collection and my primary response is: WOW. Dybek paints his Chicago with such unforgettable images. And the final story, "Pet Milk", may be one of the best short stories I've ever read. Highly recommend!

This was Nevada Barr's 3rd book, I think, I'm still catching up on her books. I have always loved reading her books and still do. What a gal Ranger Anna Pigeon is.

I had read "The Rising" and loved it, so the next natural step was this book. It picked up right where its prequel left off, and I loved it. It did get a little hokey at times, but overall, the story rocked. The ending was so appropriate, the characters were fun. I think I have a new favorite zombie author.

A nice continuation from "A Wrinkle in Time" (which is still one of my favorites). I love the imagination and depth of these stories, and how strong and independent the children have to be. I'm not going to *make* my kids read these books, but I strongly hope they do!
