The beginning was a bit slow for me and I wasn't too interested in hearing about the different women in the Nitwitts group, but I enjoyed the second half of the book much more as the plot development picked up. Laurie's love story was not as compelling or romantic as I had hoped, but I thought ending was a nice, and appropriate tie-up. I enjoyed reading about Mr. Choppy's story more at the end.

Well, I didn't read the whole book, just the parts that apply to me now. I am still not really a fan of the cry to sleep method, but I tried it for a few days and things mostly just got worse. I'm doing something a little differently that maybe takes a little more time with me in there (really, only about 5-10 minutes), but he definitely doesn't cry!

This a a great book. It about the intersection of the lives of four characters of varied backgrounds. What I found interesting about it, was that Mistry gives a very detailed history of all the four main characters, so I felt like I was experiencing the story from all of their viewpoints. The book made me think about my relationships with others, and how I and the other people in my life arrived at our relationships from very different journeys, and how when we part, we may go very different ways again, but will always be affected by the times we shared together. As I finished the book, I thought of how the events of the ending had so much meaning because of the story. That's what I love about great novels - after getting so wrapped up in the characters, I can be blown away with emotion by the telling of the simplest events, which would otherwise have very little meaning. It makes me think about the people I see on the street, or at work, or anywhere - you never know what they've been through that day or that year or that decade, and so often nobody wants to talk about it.

It was simply awful. Kudos to the author, his friends and family for the fake reviews.

Needless to say, I did not read the recipes word for word. If I didn't work full-time, I would actually try some of the recipes, but they sound like they take a lot of time & hard work, so that won't be happening! As someone who is interested in genealogy, I loved the stories the customers told about visiting the bakery & also the stories of the Thie family. It felt like home. I myself never went to the Virginia Bakery, but I had heard of it. Now I wish I had been there at least once (sounds like once would not have been enough!).

Strong characters and creative story-telling, and her always tender and insightful prose, but not her best.

Excellent board book for introducing younger children to the idea of a new baby coming. Illustrates some of the changes during mom's pregnancy (lap is smaller, for exampler = ), and what the new stuff is for baby, all the way up to the hospital when baby is born. No words, so you can emphasize different things each time and vary the telling to keep their interest. For the next stage, of understanding what life will be like once new baby has taken up residence (and so much of mommy & daddy's time), get a copy of Joanna Cole's I'm a Big Sister or I'm a Big Brother - also excellent!

I definitely understand why Frankenstein is considered a classic--it has complex themes, great visual descriptions, and poetic language: "The cup of life was poisoned for ever; and although the sun shone upon me as upon the happy and gay of heart, I saw around me nothing but a dense and frightful darkness, penetrated by no light but the glimmer of two eyes that glared upon me." But despite all that, I really didn't care for it. The plot doesn't get going until about halfway through, when we finally meet Frankenstein's monster. Before that, Frankenstein himself mostly whines about how miserable he is and has been (he really does that throughout the book). It's hard to feel sympathy for him or his creation. Frankenstein took no responsibility for his actions until it was too late, and his monster commits crimes against the innocent and says he's sorry only after Frankenstein has died. Granted, sympathy may not be the point of the novel, but in order for me to really enjoy a story, I need at least one character I can identify with, and in Shelley's book I found none. I'm glad I've read it, and it definitely had its high points (I did feel for the monster as he described his first encounter with horrified humans), but I'm also glad it was rather short.
