The weakest of the the trilogy. The first two, though especially the first, Rosa, were top notch. Shadow and Light was also great. But once you take the main character, Hoffner, out of Germany, something is lost. Weimar and pre-Nazi Berlin was a great character in the first two books and while letting the third act play out in Germany might seem like it would have been too easy, I still missed the location. One note about Rabb's writing style - he is good, though sometimes there is a density to it that seems uninviting.

I know this isn't the point, but I always dug the idea that Othello and Desdemona probably had excellent sex. You know, until he killed her and all.

I think this is one of the best novels for character development I've ever read. You change your opinion of certain characters over and over. this book takes and honest look at prostletizing and colonialization in Africa mid 1900's and the ramifications of such actions on Africa as well as on those who bombarded upon the continent. Plus its just a good read. Don't give up in the beginning. This is one of those books it takes a few chapters to really take off.

I was bothered by the simplistic characterization and somewhat ridiculous antagonists (the creatures roaming the maze), but the overarching mystery pulled me all the way through, and the action scenes were great. They added up to a very fast read.

“The Imaginarium Geographica” is an atlas. An “atlas of all the lands that have ever existed in myth and legend, fable and fairy tale,” according to the blurb on the back. If that doesn’t sound cool to you, you may as well stop reading this right now. The story follows John, Jack and Charles, three English scholars, who are made the new caretakers of the Geographica. They go on a great adventures in the lands beyond, that is, the ones described in the atlas. And there are several twists, including a Big Twist at the Very End that is fantastic. I might even go so far as to say that it's one of the best twists I've ever read.

Interesting & worth the read, but not my usual genre choice, so I can't really say much about it. Would have been nice to know what country in which the story took place. All I could ascertain was somewhere in Central America.

This futuristic novel, in the same category as 1984, A Clockwork Orange, and Brave New World, is a warning to us of what could happen under an ultra-conservative, ultra-christian regime. In other words, it is especially timely and realistic now. I very much enjoyed the read and was tantalized by the plot. However, I did not find it incredibly original as compared with other books in its category.

Fottune Rocks is situated on the ocen near Rye Beach, NH. This is about a young girl who is home schooled by her wealthy father. On of his frfiends, a physician falls for his daughter who is only 15 and they fall in love. She has a baby and they eventually are able to link up years later when her son, who was taken from her at birth and put up for adoption comes tolive with them after they were married. Excellent writing in the second person.
Should you read this book? Sure. Engaging story, and it gets better after they get to the aunt's house in the second half. Some of my frustrations? Diana is a very active and athletic woman who rows, runs, and does yoga, but she can't climb stairs in one of the locations of the book? Come ON. It's like she's athletic when the author needs her to be to do cool stuff, but then she gets overcome by inexplicable weakness when she needs to throw in some heat between the two main characters. LAZY. WRITING. Also---the adverbs. God HELP me the adverbs. "She said quietly" "he said, his words clipped" oh PUH-LEASE. Deliver me from adverbs!!!!! Ms. Harkness actually does a great job of introducing her characters and telling you about them. The adverb nonsense is distracting and then ANNOYING as you get deeper in to the book. We stop needing her to explain the character's motivations to us at about page 35, but God bless her, she just keeps KICKING THE HORSE by stating the obvious. This book would probably be at least 1/4 shorter if her editor (WHERE WAS HER EDITOR??) had had a heavier hand. Despite my rant...an enjoyable read. I will be looking for the next installments.
